Without reading all the replies I'll share my experience that a friend did almost 20 years ago. She was a career woman who met a man, fell in love and, together, they planned out exactly what they'd do:
Buy a house
Have a baby
Get married
In that order. It was unusual at the time and in the area I was living at, but I knew this woman well and she had a good, steady, no-nonsense head on her shoulders.
He was from a broken home, she was from a traditional Catholic family with 9 kids. I think they both wanted to be sure that their relationship was going to be for life instead of "for now" like so many others they knew who got married, bought a house, had kids, then graduated to bitter, angry divorces.
I guess their thinking was if they could survive the stress of buying a house and having a child and still be in love with each other, they were OK to marry.
I danced all night at their wedding and found out a few years ago that they now have five children.
