Is it hard...

I know that HHI is hard in the summertime and possibly Thanksgiving (at least for a 1 BR or a studio then). We booked March Spring break with no trouble, but that was several years ago. I hear that that time has become increasingly difficult. We haven't stayed at Vero Beach, so I don't know there.

I agree with Mom... J,J,A at HHI are difficult (not impossible). VB we have found to be much more available in general. Anything outside of April, May, June, and holidays, should be no problem (except for BCs).

We were able to get 2 days in January in HH on Nov. 14. This is a 2 bedroom.

We just called this week for 5 days in the 3rd week of June at HH. Got them no problem in a 2bdrm. I was surprised, and thought we might have to WL. I think that at HH it really matters what type of villa also, since there are a lot more 2brms than 1bdrms or studios. Haven't been to VB.
Also we had a cash ressie for our entire 10 trip at HH with a DVC discount, just in case we couldn't get our room. Good luck!!:)

I assume you mean with the DVC cash discount? Could I ask you how much that runs per night for the 2 bedroom?

Yep, DVC cash discount. The two bedroom is $342 a day. Last year it was $300 for a one bedroom and 325 for a two bedroom. We originally received a rate of $189, as did others here on the DIS, but that was before they "adjusted it" with the real rate less 25%. We are going the 12th thru the 20th.
Hope that helps.:)

Great. I don't know what that means about the "real rate" and adjusting it...but $325 doesn't sound TOO bad. I was just thinking we'd like to try it one day but it always sounds hard to get in the summer on points...the cash rate might be the way to go if we can't get in on points... We would likely be looking at going in August...but probably only a studio which should be even less if available. Thanks!

Sorry if I didn't make myself clear. I'll try to explain. We knew that we wanted to go to HH in June, but don't own there, so we wanted to be sure that we had a ressie. I called this past July (11 month mark) and asked for a cash ressie with DVC discount at HH for our time period. The first few times that I called, they said the rates weren't out yet, so I couldn't book it. Not just the DVC rate, but any rate for that time period. So I kept calling and later in the month got a great CM who was able to book it. When the ressie came in the mail from Disney, it showed a rate of $189, but said it was "not guaranteed past Dec.31,2008".
Believe me, we were hoping it was correct. Last year our DVC rate for a one bedroom was 300, and a friend's 2brm was 325. We decided a couple of weeks later that we wanted to add a day, and in the process of doing that, the CM said that the rates for 2009 had come out, and our daily DVC rate for a two bdrm was 342.75. BUMMER! But better to know now than at checkin. There were several others here on the DIS that also received the 189 rate, but the CM assured us that would not be the rate at check in.
Then, at the 7 month window, we called for the weekdays of our trip, and got all of them. We are still paying cash for the weekends(too many points) and the CM linked our ressie.
Hope this helps! and you get to go to HH. We love it there!!:)

Late August is usually available with points. Not sure why, I think it has something with the schools starting earlier down South.

So if we ever wanted to go around that time do you think we should make a cash ressie at 11 months just in case and then try to get one on points at 7 months then cancel the cash one if it's available on points?:confused3

We have never gone in August, but a PP said that usually that time is available with points. If it were me, I would still make the cash ressie with a DVC rate and then call at 7 months and try to get the days. But that is just me, we love our HH time and don't want to take the chance of not being able to go there. Good luck!!
