how difficult/easy is it to rent a confirmed vacation week. we might have to cancel a planned vacation, first time we'll be stuck-and could lose a substantial number of points. i have seen discussions about limits on renting points. has anyone attempted a donation(confirmed week) to any charities-like make a wish-or is this difficult to do. thanx for any suggestions.
just reply on the boards.

depends upon which week it is.

the rest of this year - shouldn't be a problem.

tell the posters that you are only allowing a certain time - a week or two to rent it - then you are cancelling.

if you give your points to a charity - you can't use it as a tax deduction. Only when you give the full membership can you do this.

"Give Kids the World," a charity that provides Disney vacations for kids with life-threatening illnesses, will sometimes accept confirmed ressies as a donation. They don't use them for the kids, because of the medical needs of the kids; but they do use them as a reward for some of their unpaid volunteers, I believe.

Another thing that some members have done is to use the ressie for a charity raffle prize, silent auction, etc.

However, as Spiceycat says, a DVC stay is not normally tax deductible. You'd have to check with a tax professional to be sure, but I've always heard that only a donation of your entire DVC membership would be tax-deductible.

What might be deductible (again, check with a professional), would be to rent the ressie and donate the cash to the charity of your choice.

thanks so far for your answers.
looks like i still have time to decide what i need to do.
:thumbsup2
