I've done a search from California and I'm not finding much. I could leave from San Jose, Oakland, San Francisco, or Sacramento. Is there another airport that I would fly into and then drive to Hilton Head?

The closest commercial airport would be Savannah, which is about a 45 minute drive. The cheapest airport may be Atlanta, but that may be a haul.

Good Luck!

P.S.- Hilton Head has a small airport, possibly served by the smaller commuter airlines.

You can fly Usairways (they said they will still be around and out of Ch 11 by Jan.) to charlotte NC from Cal. and then straight to HHI. They have a non stop flight from San Fran to Charlotte. T

We flew into Savannah and it was very easy drive to HH.We rented a car there(National-on-site). The airport at Savannah is a small airport and easy to get around.

How long of a drive is it from Charlotte, NC to Hilton Head? What about from Savanah

3-4 hours from Charlotte. Take I-77s to I-26e to I-95s or under 45 min from Sav.

Can't you also fly to Charleston? Isn't that about 1 1/2 hours? We also have very limited options, and so I thought that was a possibility.

Well, you can fly into any of the above airports, but some will be more expensive. If you choose to fly into HXD (Hilton Head), it will be a smaller, likely turbo-prop aircraft. Nothing is wrong with a turbo-prop aircraft, but I am somewhat familiar with the crews that fly them.....Let's just leave it at that.

My family and I flew to HH this summer from Ohio. We connected on US Air in Charlotte and had a very short and pleasant flight to HH. There are many connections everyday between these two airports and I found it to be very convenient. Even better: the airport is about five minutes from the resort and because the airport is so small, you need only be there one hour before your flight. Three or four care rental companies are located at the airport. It is almost a no-brainer. After arrival, we got our luggage, our car and were at the resort and in our room within 20 minutes!

I live in Savannah. The airport here just voted to change their name to the Savannah-Hilton Head Airport because a lot of people were flying to Charleston and renting a car. It's MUCH closer to fly to Savannah and drive and there are several companies that have vans that run to Hilton Head. One is a customer of mine, Low Country Adventures. I'm sure there are many others because there are lots of ads on the airport walls for Hilton Head so it's apparently an popular thing to do. I now there are also a lot of prop planes that fly into HH but I'm not certain who they are.
