Is it getting harder to book 180 days out?

Booked 2 days ago. Got 5 out of the 9 we wanted. Missed out on Liberty Tree and Crystal Palace dinners (both on party nights) and BOG breakfast. I also couldn't get Akershus on the 6th day of my trip at all, had to rearrange my schedule and got it for my 8th day. Weird as I never had problems with Akershus before.

This is good advice if you're only planning on doing a few hard to get ADRs and are flexible enough to wait to do them until the end of your stay.

But what if you're on a DxDP type of trip where you're planning on a lot of hard to get reservations throughout your trip?

To complicate things even more, imagine you're planning a split stay trip with DxDP style dining where you're planning to spend the first 4 nights at a MK resort and the next 4 nights at an EP resort. To minimize travel, you'd like to have all of your MK area ADRs in the first half of your trip and all of your EP area ADRs on the second half of your trip. Disney will only let you make ADRs for each leg of the trip when you hit the 180 mark for each resort. Under this scenario, you might be locked out of some popular ADRs for both legs of the trip (especially during a free dining period).

One solution would posibly be to intially book the first leg of your trip to extend over the entire trip for the sake of making ADRs, then once you've made them, cancel/shorten the first reservation and then add the second reservation. But then you run the risk of not getting your desired resort (or room type) for the second leg (for example, certain resorts are sometimes completely booked six months out). And you still might not get all of your ADRs for the first leg.

Of course, you can always resign yourself to the fact that you might just not get all of your desired ADRs at your 180 day mark(s). But I personally hate having to check the site every day hoping for cancellations. Too stressful and time consuming.

I can think of a couple of ways to possibly get around this problem but they're somewhat complicated and I'm not 100% certain they will work (that being said, I do think they potentially save more time and stress than continually having to watch for cancellations, they just require more upfront expense and planning).
I'm sure that's a bit of a pickle, but let's be honest and say that the split stay is not anything close to the norm. It's a unique situation and comes with complications like this. But it is a long, long way from the experience of the average WDW traveler.

Fro-way ride and M&G will be open. Akershus morning ressies are gonna become tough to get.

Ya that sounds about right and is part of the reason I was looking to book it. Settled for 8:05am Garden Grill and lunch at Akershus. No idea if GG will help getting to Norway quicker but I hope it will. I wanted those two meals anyways so I'm happy either way.

I found it odd that there was availability at Crystal Palace, Be Our Guest And Cinderella's Royal Table, but not Akershus, at all, any time of the day, during our entire stay. Something doesn't seem right. I've always been able to get Akershus breakfast.

I have never had trouble booking at 180 days out. I have always got what we wanted including BOG, CRT, Ohana, etc. I then am always able to go back and tweak/change with our plans and no problems. You do have to put some time into it but I think if you have an average size dining party not to hard. I think the bigger parties it is more difficult for sure.

My 180 day was Monday and I was able to get almost everything. Could not get Chef Mickey's on arrival night. Could not get a table for seven for dinner at CRT so opted for a table for five at 4:20pm. This will probably be fine. We have a PPO breakfast that day and the toddler probably wouldn't like the fancy dinner anyway. Was able to book PPO breakfast at BOG and Akershus. Also, Boma, Sci-Fi, T-Rex, Beaches & Cream, and Biergarten. Booked a breakfast at Chef Mickey's on our departure day. Will probably cancel it if I can wrangle a dinner arrival night. Will post on the November cancellation thread if so.
Monday was our ADR day too, and I got everything I was looking for at about the right times. I wasn't looking for any really hard to get ones, but ended up with: Boma, Liberty Tree Tavern, Sci Fi, T-Rex, Yak and Yeti, Garden Grill and Ohana breakfast. Just what I wanted. I also had a 1900 Park Fare dinner that I canceled after my DD absolutely refused to do a princess meal - she is SO over princesses. :)

I booked after our 180 day mark, maybe 160 days out, and got everything we wanted right away except for Be Our Guest, and we're going during free dining.

We go every year during free dining at the end of August/beginning of September for two weeks and I book each ADR at day 180 one day at a time. I've always been able to get all the hard to get ADR's. I think the problem is the early closings for party nights at MK from September to December that cause many problems for people trying to get BOG, CRT and LTT.

I got up a half hour before reservations opened (4:30 am my time), and I had SOOOOOO much trouble getting anything I wanted. I only got 1. Is there a cancellation board somewhere? Someone said to go to Dining Reservations and the cancellation board is there, but I can't find it. I need someone to dumb it down for me and tell me exactly where.

I don't know what month you are going, so I am linking the main thread and in the first post are links to April through October 2016 cancellation threads.

I had an easier time finding reservations at Cinderella's Royal table than BoG? when I logged in this morning BoG was completely booked for dinner, then I checked and I found one and just one reservation.

I am getting really anxious about my upcoming 180 in a couple of weeks. We have never been at Christmas before and I know it's going to be crazy but I really don't know what to expect when I log on to book our ADR's. We weren't able to take advantage of free dining though so hopefully that will play a small part into our favour - fingers crossed :)

WE go over the summer, so our 180 day mark is typically in February.

We've never had a problem getting any ADR we wanted. (though I must admit, we have no interest in CRT.) This trip, we'll be eating at BOG, Le Cellier, Chef Mickey's, Tusker House, Crystal Palace, Coral Reef, and Cape May. We're a family of 5, though last trip we were 11.

Me, too! They haven't created one for then yet, but when they do, it will be added to that thread I linked above.

I'm looking for November and December dates

The December one is here, I believe: http://www.disboards.com/threads/december-cancelled-adr-thread-guidlines-in-first-post.3515270/

And this looks like an old November one with newer posts: http://www.disboards.com/threads/november-cancelled-adr-thread-read-1st-post.3510083/page-3

Been seeing a lot of posts lately about people having problems making ADRs 180 days out.

Our last major trips to WDW were in 2012 and 2014 and we didn't have any problems getting pretty much everything we wanted at 180 days, including 'Ohana dinner and a lot of pre-park opening character breakfasts (and in 2012 we went during a free dining period and 2014 included a BOG dinner).

So I'm wondering if this has become more difficult within the last few years and, if so, is it because more people are booking at the 180 day mark or because of something in Disney's system (e.g., computer glitches, not initially releasing everything, etc.)

We're planning to go during spring break in 2017 and I'm starting to get nervous about our prospects of getting everything we want (we aren't planning to do BOG, but are planning several pre-park opening character breakfasts as well as 'Ohana dinner).

We stay on property but split between different resorts, so we can only book at the 180 day mark for each resort stay.
My strategy: at the 180 day mark, start by booking the hardest reservations first (and plan them near the end of your trip). My group of 7 is going during free dining and still were able to get into the popular restaurants we wanted, in the time frames we wanted. We did have to be a bit flexible on which days we went where, but with park hoppers, we weren't as restricted.

I did ok. I got the fantasmic dining package for lunch (really wanted dinner but I think it's more because there's only one fantasmic showing) and I got the other restaurants I wanted but not for good times or the dates I wanted.

Still out there searching for a bog dinner at a reasonable time on December 3rd and an Ohana for our arrival day 11/27.
