Is it ever actually possible to change park reservations while on site?

We REALLY want to snag a boarding group for Rise of the Resistance. Right now I reserved DHS for 3 days of our trip to try to maximize our chances. If we are successful, especially more than once, I can see us not really needing to keep going to DHS - plus, I am sure another family would be happy to take the spots we free up. I would rather add more AK or Epcot. I think AK and Epcot have the most capacity, so maybe that makes them more likely to have availability open up, but has it actually ever happened? Is anyone aware of same day or same week availability opening up? I admit to not tracking that closely for days that are not our own trip dates. Is there a way to become "notified" if spots open up in a park? I know that if we get hoppers we can always hop to another park after 2 pm as long as there is still capacity.

Thanks!!

We’re doing this exact same thing but we are doing 4 full park days at each park before the last 2 HS reservations. We were going to hop the last two days or maybe do DS or resort time. We’re super flexible the last 2 days so we are just going to wing it based on if we get the BG on our first HS day. Even if we do, we’ll probably keep the 2nd day and try again but definitely not the 3rd. Hoping to make a switch to Epcot or AK but if not we’ll figure something out for the later and try to hop later.

If the goal was to drive traffic to DHS, I think it was successful. ;)

It's not a risk I'd be willing to take, but I do believe it's possible. It all depends on park availability and your desire to persist in checking/refreshing the theme park reservation system, maybe grabbing one at a time for your party. The challenge with changing a reservation is that you essentially have to cancel the first one and then book another, which could leave you without a reservation for any park. If that's a chance you are willing to take, or you have hoppers and could tap-in at HS then hop to your preferred park. I suggest you keep an eye on the park reservations and if they start to "sell out" make a decision about how important is it for you to get that one ride vs having a full day in another park. No right or wrong answer there, just whatever is best for your group.

I’m sure it depends on the time of year and how busy they are, but I was able to change park reservations several days while there in January. We were even able to snag HS park reservations the day before. It had shown sold out most of the day we were looking, but my sister got 4 reservations in the afternoon and I was able to get my 3 in the evening. Turned out great as we were able to snag RotR boarding groups at 7 the next morning. 🙂

We are going to hold onto the DHS reservations for now and I'll see how it goes. We are going in June, so I am guessing that park hours will be extended in the evenings. I guess it is also possible that Disney may bump up capacity by then, but who knows. I have been leaning more and more toward switching to hoppers, so we can always do mornings at DHS and then have pool time and another park in the evening if we have had more than our fill of DHS by day 3 and nothing else has opened up.

I booked two HS for my trip expecting to change one to Epcot if we don't get Rise - is that not a viable strategy? This would be May 9 or 10 - should we commit a day to Epcot immediately?

With Epcot opening from 11am to 11pm, it didn't make much sense for us to change back to that park. Instead, we'd just get a late start to the day and hit the original park for a short while, and then hop over to Epcot. Admittedly, there's nothing at Epcot that I feel compelled to ride at rope drop.

Right now those days look fine, but keep an eye on the theme park reservations calendar.

Thanks. I don't like the uncertianty of all of this. Riding Rise is a primary goal for us as we have not had a chance to do so yet, but our trip is short as it is and I definitely don't want two HS days (no hoppers as they didn't seem worth it with the park hours). It is stressing me out.

I was wondering if we can try for RotR if our initial park for the day is not HS.

I don't think so. You can only try for it at 7 am and 1 pm, and for the 1 pm opportunity you have to have swiped into the park. So if you are only hopping into HS at 2 or later, you are risking getting a BG at 7 am that will come up before 2, and you won't have a chance to try for one at 1 pm because you won't have swiped into the park yet.

So THAT'S why DHS is already gone for 5 of the 7 days of our June trip but everything else is still open. I was scratching my head trying to figure that one out!

If you have park hopping on your pass, you can always do mornings at DHS and hop to another park after 2 PM.

I think a lot of people are reserving extra days at DHS hoping to be able to ride RotR. We would probably stick with 2 days at DHS otherwise, but not 3.

So far we haven't adding park hopping, but I am pretty sure we will. I didn't want to deal with it this trip but now I am worried that we won't get as much done without it.

I am in the same boat. Hopping seems pointless with it being limited to after 2 and 6 PM closes, but if they extend the hours it may work out better. I didn't get hoppers though so I don't think I can upgrade my tickets until I am there (purchased seperately).

The only time I've seen people having problems upgrading tickets is if the whole trip is already at full capacity for park reservations. Otherwise, there shouldn't be any issues adding hoppers now. I did that (and added 3 days) to my tickets on the app myself for my October trip about 2 weeks ago.
