Is It Easy To Sell/Transfer points?

I am buying into SSR and will be unable to use my initial 150 points. Banking is not an option because I doubt that I will be able to use many second year points.

So I was thinking of selling my 150 points.

Do "fresh" points sell quick? It looks like people get about $10.00 a point and that would help pay for the unit.

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

you are renting your points - not selling (I think).

yes it is fairly easy to rent. be warned some disers will try to make you take less than what you offer your points for - don't do it. they are your points - if that person won't take them for what you are offering - just find anyone.

It also depends on when your use year begins. it's not so easy to rent if they will expire soon. For instance, we have a February use year which means we would have to rent out by end of January. That's easier said than done. October, November, December and the first week of January are pretty much booked up with waiting lists everywhere. There are single nights here and there, but not much in blocks. You might find someone who wants to rent, but if you can't find a reservation for them you've got no options. That would mean your market for those points is pretty much limited to someone who wants to travel mid to late January - not nearly as big a potential group.

Now if the points have a use year in June, you've got plenty of time and potential to get 'em rented out.

Everyone says "rent" when there are extra points or cancels, but it's not always so easy.

Not too hard to do. Suggest doing a transfer to another member instead of dealing with the hassle of renting (calling MS, finding availability, gettting back to interested party, finding out they want different dates...)
A transfer is very easy, and the other person is a member and (should) understands the system. Get everything taken care of before you initiate transfer, becasue once it is done, there is no recourse through DVC.

You could always bank your initial 150 points and then use them next year. I know you say you doubt you'll use them but will you use 150 next year if so you could use the banked 150 first and then bank next years into the following use year .

Or you depending on use year bank this years and at beginning of your next use year rent those points out using the banked points to travel with and making money off next years points to help pay for the trip.

Don't give up on the banking option just because you say you will not use them...things change and who knows what will happen tomorrow or next year.

As far a renting, I ended up renting out my first year points to a co-worker who was smiling ear to ear when he heard how much he would have to pay to take is family and in-laws to VWL and a 2-bdrm villa. No hassles about renting, no payment issues, no worries about cancellation, etc.
