Do folks find it hard to rent their points out when they find they can't use them? Is it a renters or sellers market?

Here is what I'm considering if we join in June when we go down to WDW. I will use MB to reduce the cost thus loosing my first years points. Year after next though we had planned on taking a family cruise (not a Disney cruise, probably RCCL), so we wouldn't be using the points for that year. I know we could bank them, but I am more in the mind of renting that year's points to help pay for the cruise. Will I have trouble renting these points out? I assume you just post an entry on the renters board here, are there any other places you might typically post?

I have rented several times no problem. We only use all our points when we take family. Post on the boards well in advance and be patient, it is pretty easy. I have also found that I know have routine renters and I bank/rent ont he board factoring them in.

Good luck.

I also rent my points when I have extra available. It's almost too easy--you will easily receive 40-60 posts from one message on the rent/trade board. The vast majority of those people are not serious, they don't understand how DVC works so they think you just know available dates, like Central Reservations. Then there's the handful of serious renters who are hoping you will rent out your points for $1 each; the smallest group are the very serious who want your points, and will give you $10 per points for them. Fortuneately, this is always a large enough group that if you had 500 points you could still rent them all. The challenge is to wade thru all the fakes to find the real gems in the group.

Do you have any tips for weeding out those who are either uninformed or not serious? Not that I ever anticipate having points to rent (I'm always borrowing), but who knows - it could happen.

I have rented points on a few occasions and have rented points for myself once. One of the things I like to do, is to do a search of the posters previous posts on these boards and read them. You can find out a lot about a person by reading what they say on the Dis-Boards. For example; I rented to three people, all of whom I checked out that way. I felt I knew them before even contacting them.
