edit: im going on 12/19! im hopeing for the worst so just like Sherry E said i might be relieved lol! has anyone else had experience with past 12/19's? thank you!

Based upon from what I have read in this forum and elsewhere, the day after NYE, is crowded, but not necessarily as such in comparison to NYE. Apparently NYE at Dl. is a crowded nightmare. The only problem is though, at least with a nightmare you will wake up at some point. This is the type where you are not sleeping, so therefore it will not be until one leaves that this kind of dream will end.
I am figuring that Dec.29 th would not be as crowded as before Christmas. Jan. 04 th I am figuring the same thing, again based upon what experiences that I have read of others that have been during those time frames.

We flew in to DL on Jan 1st,[see siggy] I knew not to go, having read the dis, but Dh and Dd convinced me to go, we got to New Orleans and the crowd suddenly came swarming at us, engulfing us. Sweeping us back to Main Street. It was scarey to the max! Dd grabbed Dh's belt loop to stay with him and I was pushed away from them, I had a hard time making my way back to them.

No way ever again!!!!!!! No Way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

oh wow! ok i have a new date that we will be going on with a 99.99% chance lol dec. 19?

As time approaches Christmas, the crowd level will increase. Whichever day that one may decide to visit Dl. in Dec. I would make it a very strong point to always have a fast pass for one's favorites (Where and when available) and to arrive as close to opening time as possible.

~~~~~~~~~~~~ Merry Christmas! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The week before Xmas is very busy as well. I was there one year Dec 15-22and closer to Xmas, if you didn't have a FP for Indy in the early am, you wouldn't get one. By noon the return time was 10:30PM. Also, they put up the electronic signs that said DL park was closed in the afternoons. (But we waited about 5 minutes in line and they let us in. I've heard it's not like that on NYEve, though.) So yeah, it can be nuts, but still not as nuts as Dec 31.:scared1: I can tell you that if the crowds were significantly worse during the week before Xmas, I would probably have an anxiety attack. (And I'm not one prone to anxiety attakcs, LOL.) There were just too many grumpy people. And when it's wall to wall grumpy people, it can be overwhelming.
I'm sure there are a lot of variables to consider as well like weather, economy, etc. Maybe it won't be as busy this trip because of the economy. Have fun! I love Indy too, it's one of my favs!
your right. well luckly it wont be raining but it will be 61 degrees (burrr i checked a forcast) also with the economy, that could also have a major effect on attendence! thank you for your imput by the way.
I will also be there on Dec. 19th, and from what I have been reading on this board about current crowds, it will be very, very crowded in DL. DCA seems to be less crowded. For some reason, the shops and hotels are super crowded even though spending is down at DLR and hotel bookings are down! I guess people are doing a lot of 'looking'! We were there last year on the same weekend (the one right before Christmas), and it was crowded but we still got a lot done. It won't be too bad. If you expect the worst, then you won't be shocked and most likely will be relieved!
A certain crowd level is expected around the holidays so making good lists and planning things out helps! However, one time I was at DLR on 12/31 - 1/1, and I would never choose to go on New Year's Eve again. That was a crowd level of a whole different kind. It WAS very scary. January 1 was better for the first part of the day - the park was nearly empty because everyone was probably sleeping in with hangovers from the night before. After about 1:00 p.m., people started to pile in, but it still was not as bad as 12/31!!!
If you decide on the 29th, you might want to consider that the 2 college football teams that play in this year’s Rose Bowl go to Disneyland a couple days before the game. I’m guessing they might be there the 29th or the 30th. I think with them being there it might bring in a lot of local crowds.
I am going on Dec 27 after returning from a cruise and I am going for the express purpose of seeing the Electrical parade that is only available to see during the Christmas period though it is not going to be run on Christmas day. I was told it will be on on the 27th weather permitting so I hope that is good info. I just hope to be able to get into California adventure where it is held and get a place in WC seating to see it. Staying at a different hotel, not on property so I hope I don't get shut out.
