We may need to push our trip back from September to October, specifically October 15th - 21st and were just wondering if the crowds are bad in October? Does anyone have any idea?? Thanks!!
We usually go around the 19th for 4 days, that is when we are going this year too, and have not found it to be unmanageable. Last year we were there for a week (we had to evacuate for a hurricane) and I found WDW to be packed! I chalk it up to alot of people vacating SWFL because of Hurricane Wilma.
The F&W fest is going on during that time, part of the reason we go, and you may find Epcot to be busier as well

we were there from oct 21-25th in 2004 and it was absolutely packed. HOWEVER, that was the year that 4 major hurricanes hit Florida and the CM's said that many people were encouraged to reschedule their vacations for that week and that the crowd levels were not typical. so while normally the answer would be "no", you might just want to be aware and plan appropriately that if the weather cuts into people's plans again, it could be.
It can be crowded. Esp. MK. But, the weather can really be great. No more 100 degree temps. If you do the UG thing and get there at opening, it can really make a difference.
It can be crowded around Columbus Day, but other than that I don't think so.
We were there last year (third week of October). Mornings were empty... walk on every ride. In the afternoons it got crowded. We saw Soarin' hit 60 minutes. But you just use FastPass and everything's cool.
i'm going in october too, and something i have come to terms with, is that i AM going to DISNEY WORLD, and not my local theme park. so according to Disney standards it could be a "very light" day, but still might seem PACKED to me because of what im used to here.... just something to consider!
Thanks for the replies everyone.. I guess all we can do is go with the flow and if it's crowded, we'll deal with it just as everyone else does. The best thing to consider is that it won't be as hot as it would be in the summer months so that makes it just that much more bearable!
October is not as crowded as the other months but as other have already said it may still be crowded to us just not as much as other months. the very best time to be honest is the 1st or 2nd week of October. The heat is not that much of a factor and the rain is not very much as it can be in other months. Sometimes you get a daily 10-15 minute shower then 30 minutes later you never knew it hit...But whenever you go just kick back relax and make the most of it. There's alot worse situations and condistions we could be in RIGHT....
We were there Oct 10 - 17, it was very crowded.... We had heard from people that some states have a fall school vacation, I have just posted a thread asking when the states have there fall vacations, you should look for it and take a peak.... It is called "Fall School Vacations?"
Put it this way, My hubby and myself just went the day after 4th of July until July 8th (for our anniversary) we expected it to be very packed... I would say, about the same as it was the week we were there in October.. Soaring fast passes were gone by noon and there were 75 min waits one day and 120 min waits another day... This was in October....
However, the weather, was beautiful.... only rained for about 15 min one day out of 8 days!!!!!! Couldn't beat that!!!
NOW, with all this being said... would I go back in October.... YES, I loved the weather and I loved the whole Halloween MNSSHP.... Maybe I would try another week.... Also, one more note: People had also said that they were there that week due to being bumped from September from the hurricanes....
We went in 2003 and 2004 and are going back in 2006 around Halloween.
Both times it was what I would call a managable crowd.
We went early, so we were able to avoid some of the crowds.
October isn't the slow season it used to be, for many reasons. It won't be holiday-level crowds, but you'll need a good plan and be smart about crowd avoidance.
We went the last week of October last year. We also went the last week in April to avoid the spring break/easter crowds. The weather was good in October, we were able to swim every day. The crowds were lighter in October compared to April. F&W is also going on in Epcot. We thought it was very manageable and will be going again this October.
We have been in October 2004 and 2005. About the 3rd week, I believe. I think 2004 were a bit lighter crowds. No more then 15 min wait for rides we wanted to go on. Pools were not super crowded. Last year seemed for crowded. Maybe because we were there over a weekend versus during the week in 2004. But both times nothing terrible with crowds. WOnderful weather. Have fun
Thank you to all the replies I wish you all a pixie dust sprinkled magical trip on your next visit.....Have fun guys and gals no matter the crowds or other obstacles it will still be magical after all I've noticed thru the posts on this site that the majority of people going to Disney are good people who help out weigh the bad and make for a pleasurable experience BE SAFE AND ENJOY!!!!!!
