Is it crazy to go to Disney on Jan 1st - 3rd?

Hello everyone! We are going to be in FL anyway at that time, and thought we'd do a couple of days at Disney while we're there. All the websites seem to say that the week between Christmas and New Year's is the worst... but what about the first few days of Jan?

Thanks for any input you can give. (This would be our first time to Disney.)

Guess I should add that we have 6 kids between 5 months and almost 12yo. Thanks!

I personally haven't been at that time, but I'm planning on New Years Eve for the first time this year. And will probably be there on the 2nd or 3rd with some family that is visiting.

I would think most families would be heading back home right after New Years, but I do know that the Hillsborough Schools (Tampa area) don't start back until Jan 6. Not sure about the Orlando ones, but it may add to the crowds.

Our first visit was a July 4th and we survived it. I say go, expect crowds, and maybe we will get lucky and they won't be that bad.

I have done it before and honestly, even if it was free, I personally would never do it again. The crowds were the worst I had ever dealt with at WDW and it really made for a crummy visit. By the 3rd things were better. It also depends where the holiday falls during the week. I believe this year NY is on a Thursday so for folks to tack on one extra day and have a 5 day weekend is easy. I wouldn't want to be there before the Sunday of the weekend.

But that is me.....I really really really hate crowds!!!

Our family went at that time last year. It was pretty crowded. It was really complicated because it became really COLD at that time last year. Our first few days in the park the morning temperature was below 30 degrees! Yes it can get that cold in Orlando. I know this weather is unusual. The cold plus the crowd really made it tough on our children.

We have one picture of the family at the MK at night inside the Hall of Presidents. It was so warm and cozy we did not want to leave--then Spectromagic started and we braved it again.

My advice: It's Disney, you will have fun, but the weather can be unpredictable.

If you're going to be in Orlando anyway, go for it! We will be there from the holidays. We aren't leaving WDW till the 3rd. With school systems not starting till the 5th or 6th, many may leave that weekend, but others may stay through that weekend. I say take your chances, but expect crowds. It's WDW! I've gone through the two most crowdest times of the year, the 4th of July and Christmas, and I still love it. :santa:

It must have been cold if you didn't want to leave HoP. :lmao:

OP, if you're going to be there anyway, definitely go to WDW. Why not? As long as you know that it will be crowded, you should be fine.
