Is it considered weird to wear a tshirt in the pool?

Absolutely not weird! Many people do it and for different reasons. Tell him to relax and have fun and remind him he will never see these people again anyway.

Another vote for the rash guard swim shirts from Lands End. My son has several colors and loves them - mainly because if he wears it then we don't have to reapply sunscreen multiple times a day! The Lands End shirts fit looser which he prefers.

Not weird. It would be even less weird to wear a swim shirt---a tshirt made out of swimsuit material. I love mine!

I don't think it's weird at all. It's actually very smart because it cuts down on sun burn if you don't get every inch covered with sunblock. My son has a mild chest condition where his chest is slightly more indented then other boys chests. He's 15 and he wears a thin tank top in the pool. He's never the only one and nobody notices or cares. Good Luck!

Another vote for rash guards. I made wearing them a habit for DD and DS since they were 5 and 7 respectively. Beats rubbing them down with sunscreen. Now they are teens, they still wear rash guards. When they were young, i bought the ones from Lands End. They are cut wider and are very comfy. I own one myself. Recommend them highly. Now my DD is a teen she buys more fashionable body conscious ones for juniors.

I don't think it's weird, but I didn't notice many (only a couple) of people at the pool with rash guard shirts (mostly children) when I was at the Poly, and only saw one adult with an actual t-shirt on at the pool. I don't find it odd, I don't really care one way or another, but I will say this I saw a man at the pool with a large scar down his chest and I didn't think anything about that either, I told my mom when I saw him "good for him, he obviously overcame something tremendous in his lifetime", and I of course didn't say anything to the man nor did I stare or anything.

I also have a large scar all the way from my neck to my elbow on my arm and it's very noticable to me (and probably others) and it cannot be covered especially in the summer, but no one has ever looked at me oddly or anything at least not that I noticed. I have had children ask me what happened, but to me that's not a big deal and I will tell them I was sick but that doctors made me all better (or as much as their parents will allow me to tell them).

If your son is self-conscience about it, I am sure a t-shirt will be absolutely fine, but really no one will probably give him a second glance either way, and if they do he should try and embrace his battle scars! I know that isn't easy, believe me, but hopefully that will be something he can come to terms with eventually.

No matter what I hope you all enjoy your trip!

Both my husband & my daughter are very fair...there is no going in th pool w/o a shirt...there are really cool swim shirts out there now...go shopping!

I agree with PPs - there is no shame either way!

But I will add that I actually think that the whole rashguard shirt look is very trendy right now too. No one would think twice about it.
