Is it completely impossible to get a 7 month reservation for December?

We've been steady January/February visitors for the majority of the 12 years we've been DVC owners. Due to a change in circumstances at DH's work, we can't vacation out of town till at least Thanksgiving 2015, so we're hoping to book from 11/28-12/13. We'll need a week in a 1bdrm (5 of us) and another week in a 2bdrm (9 folks).

We'd LOVE AKL. It's where our kids prefer to stay (we've been there for our last 5 trips). Our home is SSR, but DH doesn't want to book there unless we absolutely, positively cannot get anywhere else this year.

He doesn't read boards as often and has seen that these two weeks are consider the best two of the year for crowds, etc and he really wants to take his friends during that period.

So, are we going to be SOL in April when it's time to book rooms?

No, not at all impossible. People do it all the time.

Suggest you first book a reservation at your home resort. Then at the seven month window book the desired resort. If not available then, wait list it.

Those two weeks can be very difficult for resorts other than SSR, although you still have some chance for AKV or OKW, and also you can wait list. For 2013 at 7 months out, 1 and 2BR savanna and standard views at AKV had one to three nights of that first week missing at 7 months out; same for 2014 except that a 1BR savanna view at Kidani was open for the week if you reserved exactly 7 months out. For that second week you desire, in both 2013 and 2014, Jambo standard and savanna view 1BRs and 2BRs were missing three nights of the week at 7 months out and Kidani one to two nights.

DW and I have been every year since '93 the 2nd week of Dec.
We book our HR at 11 months out, then at 7 months we change to another resort based on what we want to do that year. We have been successful changing when we want too, 100% of the time at this time of the year.
I have never used the WL to do the change but for the length of visit you are looking for, you might have to book part, and WL the missing portion.
