Is it common for Disney to loose power during bad storms?

Just curious, if a bad storm/hurricane were to hit Disney-do they loose power as frequently as say "normal homes"? We're staying at the cabins & bringing quite a bit of food/snacks along but they require electricity to prepare and serve......ANYONE?? ANYONE???? TIA!!

No, I don't think so at all. Disney generates and operates their own electrical power supply. In addition, all GUEST areas have backup generators. They can run for DAYS on a diesel fuel supply.

Don't worry about a thing.

I've never heard of WDW losing power. If it happens, it must be pretty uncommon.

Btw, it's lose, not "loose".:)

Disney actually has a procedural plan in place in the event a hurricane does hit the park. Dh sent it to me once, but I have no idea where it is located. It was an interesting read...mentioned at what weather conditions what rides were suspended and when parks were closed.

I'm going to guess no. They probably have generators. We were there during hurricane Jeanne in 2004 and while we were stuck in our room for 2 days, we never lost power.

Have a great trip!

We've been at WDW through two tropical storms. (long story) anyway, electrical was never interrupted and when I asked a CM, they mentioned the safeguards (I don't remember what he said now, cause I was panicking at the time, but it all turned out fine.)

In addition, it looks like all their power cables are buried.. (don't recall seeing any above ground power lines on property anywhere) ..I think this is a big reason why they aren't likely to lose power.

FWIW, a lot of locals go to WDW when hurricanes happen because Disney has power/food etc.

We were there a few weeks ago during a really bad thunder and lightning storm and we were inside the haunted mansion when the lights suddenly flickered on and the doombuggies stopped for a few minutes. FYI - we could still see the ghosts during the dining room party while the lights were on!!
The lightning was pretty bad and some of the rides had shut down for safety reason, but most were still running.

I know that most of the buildings have lightning rods on them and given the technical knowledge I'm sure they have it figured out so the ride continue. But safety issues close the rides.
