Is It Absurd?

We just returned from our first DVC stay. We were there 4 nights and asked for no housekeeping as it was the night before check-out.

We are going back in December for 10 nights and would like to wash our own towels and pass on the housekeeping. Is that absurd? Does Disney frown on asking for no housekeeping on extended stays?

It shouldn't be a problem.

We usually call housekeeping and cancel it. The day it is due I just leave the DND out in case they forget. I doubt housekeeping is going to frown upon less work. As long as you don't leave the trash in the hall I don't think they would care. I would rather wash my towel and take out the trash than worry about someone being in the room when I find it inconvient.

That makes sense. I also would like to be able to leave my laptop, pins or whatever out while we are in the parks instead of having to worry about somebody being in the room or leaving the door open to get supplies.

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, finally someone else who sees the wisdom in washing your own towels. It seems so simple to me but there are those who feel that it is thier right to have fresh towels.

If I wash them myself, they are fresh!

Honestly, we washed our own towels on this last go. We would throw them in the wash in the morning before we left and toss them in the dryer when we returned in the evening. I was able to use detergent I like and fabric softener. I even had my own dryer sheets and my towels smelt and felt so much better than they do when Disney puts them in my bathroom.

I do this at regular hotels. Leave out the DnD sign. I don't need my towels watched everyday nor my bed made for me.

I usually allow housekeeping every 3rd day or so at a hotel if I'm staying that long.

We never use housekeeping.

We call the day of Trash and Towel and get the housekeeper to come by and give us toliet tissue, soap etc. But we wash the towels if we need them and take out our own trash.

I think JL should give me a discount.

We had the do not disturb sign "stolen" from our door several times during a 5-day stay. I think a phone call might be the way to go.

When we stayed for 5 nights, we were supposed to get trash & towel the day before we were supposed to leave. We just told mousekeeping to skip it, they asked if I was sure because they didn't mind, and I assured her it made no sense since they would have to clean the room when we checked out.

My DW did our towels in the laundry while we were there too.

That is great! With DVC, this is the way to go (IMO). I really don't require housekeeping when I can wash my own towels. Taking out the garbage/recyclables is pretty easy considering it is on my way down the hall to catch a bus.

I can't imagine it would be a problem. And, because the Mousekeepers don't do every room every day, it should be easy to just leave your room "off the list" of units to clean that day. I would probably call the afternoon before; I would guess that the list is generated overnight sometime.

Just be aware that a cm could still have to get in your room for various reasons. I don't think id leave ut anything too valuable in my room even if you've canceled the service. On our Blt stay last year we had mousekeeping stop by one day to change out room service menus. If we hadnt been there we likely would never. Have noticed or known someone had been in our room.
