I have the iPhone camera and a canon tiny one that I think is 8 megapixels. I do not like to carry a lot into the park. I've heard the 5s camera is really good. Would you leave the canon one home?

What kind of Cannon do you have? Is it a big DSLR (I'm thinking it is) or something like a smaller point and shoot you could fit in your pocket? (never mind, just read that it says tiny, not sure how I missed that)

Just my opinion, but you might want to the smaller type that you can put on your pocket when not in use. I think you will find it easier and probably quicker to use then a cell phone camera. IMO easier to use if you want to zoom in on something to hold you finger on a button then have to pinch the screen etc. That said, I took quite a few good shots using my iPhone 5 last year, but did not rely on it. The phone was great when wanting up load a quick pic or two to facebook or text a few. But again I liked having the smaller Nikon Coolpix for the majority of shots.

the canon is a little point and shoot that I paid maybe $200 for close to 8 years ago

If you want to print the photos or take photos at night or in low light I would suggest taking a camera in addition to the iPhone.

Outside you will be fine with iPhone. If you plan on many indoor shots, I would do some trials at home with iPhone and you P&S. Then make your decision based on that. Inexpensive P&S don't do well with lowlight either, so you will have to see if it is enough improvement over the iPhone to fuss with.

Enjoy your trip!!

Depends on what you want to take pictures of. If you want pictures of. If you want close up, detail pictures, ones you will enlarge, or ones you want to make good quality prints with, you will want your camera. If you are good with more "off in the distance" shots or of people your iphone should be good. Take both see how the day goes with one or both. That way if you change your mind it's just a quick stop at the car or hotel.

For daylight photos the 5S will do great. If you plan on taking nighttime or on ride photos it will be a bit more of a challenge. But if you are just taking for internet posting it will still be suffice.

As others have said if you intend to print pics you will want a camera.

I swore by my iPhone camera for years. Then when my 4 was aging I bought a camera with a lovely zoom. Now I use a combo of the 5S and the camera. But the 5S pics turn out really well still.

I'm going to go against the grain and say that the camera on the 5S is going to be better than on an 8 year old point and shoot. Technology has changed a LOT in the last 8 years. You can get free apps that let you separate your exposure and focus so that you can get proper exposure. I have taken many, many successful night/indoor shots with my iPhones over the years. It just takes practice and good technique as well as a steady hand. That goes for any camera really. That said, if you want zoom and something that has has decent low light capabilities then I would invest in one of the newer point and shoots. Even the cheapest ones are going to be far superior to one that is "ancient" by digital camera standards.

Wanted to add that I've had no problems printing iPhone pics. These were taken on an iPhone 5. Just got a large print of this and it's beautiful.

I upgraded from an Iphone 4S to a 5S about a month ago, and the difference in picture quality is huge. I was surprised. Had I realized the 5S camera was that much better than the 4S, I would have upgraded sooner! The 5S definitely takes better photos than my several year old Canon camera. We also have a new Canon we got this year and the photos on that are generally better than the Iphone especially if you are in a lower light situation, but sometimes if DH is shooting with the camera and I'm shooting with the phone- I still get a better picture on the phone. I have the largest storage capacity on my 5S so I don't worry about running out of room, but if you have a lesser storage and your phone has a ton of stuff on it, my biggest worry would be running out of space. Also with all the MDE garbage, it can suck the battery life out of the phone really quick. Because of that, if I were you, I would probably have the Canon with me as a back up just in case.

The battery life of the iPhone is something that I would be worried. Because an 8 years old 8 mp camera is not going to be much better than the iPhone. It might or might nor provide better zoom and other features.

Battery life is a concern. I normally carry a small battery pack and cord with me for recharges on the go. My sister has one of the Mophie cases. They are pricey but work. I have never seen her worry about her battery midday like I have to.

thanks all. I have to learn how to take better pics with my iPhone. Right now to zoom, I just walk closer to the person, lol.

I have a whole book on the 5s but haven't read it yet. I haven't even met Suri.

You can also edit pics on the iPhone after they are taken. We were in the pass-through to Adventureland, fairly far back, and took pictures and cropped them after the fact on the phone, with pretty decent results. Indoor shots can be a bit grainy - outdoor shots are great.

I actually even edit pictures I take on my camera by moving them to my 5S to edit. There are some fantastic apps for pictures.

If the cannon is a point and shoot yes, take it. The battery will run out in the iPhone so fast! Even if you don't use the phone during the day, there are so many locators and programs running in the back it sucks its life out.

I would watch for a sale on a camera, they are nice for video too. I have a Panasonic Lumix I just love! Especially the zoom.
