Is Hollywood & Vine dinner really THAT bad?

I have heard so many negative things about the Hollywood & Vine dinner at DHS. On our next trip we are definitely going to do the Fantasmic dinner package, and we are narrowed down to Mama Melrose and H & V. We are not going to do Brown Derby because I checked out the menu and it is not worth the 2 TS credits. Nothing there looks super appealing. Some thing look good at Mama Melrose, but I am not sure about it because I am so picky about Italian food (from Brooklyn, NY and I do not want to be disappointed!). However, with the package it also includes the appetizer which is pretty appealing (and not normally included on the basic DDP).

But what about Hollywood & Vine for the Fantasmic dinner? Is the dinner food there really that bad? What is so bad about it? Is it just that it is pretty basic buffet food, or is it really gross and terrible quality compared to most buffets? If it is just that it is basic but my kids would like it and we would also be able to find things we like then we would do it instead of Mama Melrose for the Fantasmic package. Opinions please? Thanks!

it is just run of the mill buffet food.....but it was not that bad and we had alot of choices.....we used it last May for Fantasmic pkg......there was 9 of us and we enjoyed it......even the kiddos...

On trips where we use the Fantasmic package we usually book it with H&V.

The food is not top-line but it is not bad either, and there are plenty of choices.

The main reason we like to book this one instead of either of the others is because you can control the pace of your meal and don't have to worry about timing.

Okay this is a huge relief! We had gone to H & V for the breakfast in July and we all loved it, food included! But I know that dinner buffets could be drastically different from breakfast buffets.

We also like to go at our own pace, especially with little ones. With a buffet I could just go up and get them their food and if they do not like something they can try something else. Sounds fine!

We enjoy hollywood and vine very much...the food is very good. I don't think you will be disappointed

Just depends on what kind of meal & atmosphere you're looking for.

We have done both H & V and Mama Melrose for Fantasmic package. We liked both. H & V was busy, and loud but food was good, place was clean & constantly restocked the food, and service was great. Very popular family restaurant, so naturally a lot of kids/families. If you have any picky eaters, or those who don't really go for Italian food, I'd say choose H & V for the dinner. We would go back.

We loved Mama Melrose...think Olive Garden but not as rushed. Quieter & more relaxed meal (by far) than H & V. Still good for families, just not near as much hubbub cuz the diners are seated for the meal, of course. Food was great, service was great.

Our experience was fine! Pretty good food, not that great service, but we'd do it again!! We'd do it for the package, probably wouldn't do it if it weren't for that. Fantasmic scared my son, though, so he doesn't want to go back any time soon! :rotfl: Big chicken!!

My wife and I didn't think it was that bad. It was ok food where we both found a few items that we enjoyed. We both thought the bar-b-que pork was really good. However I did think that the childrens food was better then the adults choices. I ate a plate of the meatballs in bar-b-que sauce.

I would recomend having desert elsewhere. All H&V had was standard Disney buffet desert choices which I am not a fan of. Walk a few feet to the bar at 50's Prime Time and get a shake or go get a coke slushy across the street.

H&V is the worst food we ever had anywhere, and the service was just as bad

H & V is one of only 2 restaurants in all of WDW that we won't go back to.
Our dinner was horrible, and yes, we expected only a buffet experience.
The hot food was not hot, the cold food was not cold. We were surrounded by dirty, unbussed tables. Our waitress was rude, and the Ladies Room was Filthy!!!!
We will not go back

I've never eaten at H&V but I can say that since your from Brooklyn, Mama Melrose is not going to do it for you. I grew up in Brooklyn and can say that Mama Melrose is like going to Olive Garden.

We really like H&V and have never had any issue's with it. We like the variety they have.

For the Fantasmic package it is good. The food was your regular buffet food. We weren't expecting great things so we weren't dissappointed and we weren't overly impressed. I would go again for all of the choices available.

H&V is the worst food we ever had anywhere, and the service was just as bad

ABSOLUTELY agree with you. One of only three Disney restaurants we will never step in again. Two horrible experiences were more than enough for us (bad service, dirty conditions, bad food).

I really like HW & V!! We go just about every year and always go here for the Fantasmic package. All 3x we've been there (04,06,07) the food was fresh and we had great waitresses. I love the corn bread pudding and the desserts are great. I'm not sure what everyone else it talking about...

I thought the H&V dinner was horrible. It was the only BAD meal we had on our entire trip! Just my opinion.

It's just very average buffet food, you can eat much better food elsewhere in Disney. We only ate there twice as a Fantasmic package because we didn't want to queue for ages.

Next year we're going to try mama melrose instead.
