Is Hilton Head possible without a car?

Oh, that would be so lovely! We know somebody who owns a condo there too and is slowly starting to spend more time at that home than his own in Toronto ;).
Our preferred family trip in the summer is HH. We go there most years with between 30 & 40 people. We would have been there this year instead of West Palm but we had other plans this year that would have precluded that and by the time we decided the European trip wasn't feasible, it was too late to reserve HH. West Palm was great too, we're really glad it worked out the way it did. We love our family trips, our way of giving back to the family and getting them together when it wouldn't happen as consistently otherwise.

Enjoy your trip. We love HH hence owning a condo there plus 8 summer Marriott weeks.
Though I'm not sure it's part of the Marriott you use, both our last two trips to HHI we stayed at the Marriott on the beach there in Palmetto Dunes. Nice resort. Loved the first time, but this last time had either a DJ or cover band blaring excessive decibels from noon to five every day. Still, very enjoyable.

The hotel that's now Marriott used to be the Hyatt, not sure if it was something before that. Marriott has 8 timeshares on the island, 2 at Harbour town, 2 at Shelter Cover across from DVC, and 4 on the beach (Sea Pines, between Coligny and the front Sea Pines gate, Folly field (near the Barnacle Bills seafood) and one just inside Port Royal Plantation). They used to manage 3 more (Swallowtail & Spicebush inside sea pines and a collection of condo's in various sea pines projects terms the Saturday VillasJ). One comes with golf included. 6 of mine are at Grande Ocean (near Coligny) and the other 2 at Surfwatch near Folly field. My condo is between the Marriott Hotel and DVC beach house. I'm not a big fan of the hotel, at least the out building, because they undercut the needs of the AC there unless they've upgraded them which is doubtful since they're in the ceiling units.

We walked by those condos a few times, then. Our hotel had been refurbed since our last visit, and the view is excellent, but you can tell it needs some sprucing up around the lobby, elevators, etc. Likely not stay there again.

Oh, these are great, thank you so much!

Looks like it might be a generational trip with myself, my dad, and my then-eight year old.

I wonder how likely it is that we will find availability for a one-bedroom for second week of July if we don't own there at 7 months out. Does anyone happen to know :)?

I think the odds are very low. You'd have a better chance for a 2 BR.

We just returned from HH. We were there for 8 days in mid July. We were able to get both a 1 br and a 2 br at 7 months. We did notice in Savannah that there was a service to take you to from the Savannah airport to Hilton Head. $90.00 for 2 people. Additional charge for a third or fourth person.

There are a number of restaurants within walking distance from the Disney Resort. We tried three and they were all very good. There is a shuttle to the beach house. It does not start until 10AM. After the Disney shuttle stops you can call them and they will send someone to take you back to the resort. There is a nice walking trail to the beach also but it is about 2 miles. Lots of walking trails around the area. If you are still riding bicycles you can pretty much go all over the island on a bike.

We went with 4 generations from GG who is in her 80's to the littlest grand son who is 4 we all had a great time.
