Is HHI worth it for a local?

My boyfriend lives in Savannah and sometimes we go to HHI for the day.
Everytime we pass the Disney Resort I’m tempted to book it sometime for a little weekend trip with my 5 year old son to hold us over till our next Disney trip. Lol.
How “Disney is it?” Are there characters or character meals?
Is the pool theming equivalent to Deluxe resorts?
Is there a kids club like Lilo’s Playhouse?
I’m not a DVC member but am familiar with renting points. How do prices compare to WDW DVC resorts?

IMO, it’s definitely worth it. But I’ll admit to being a huge fan of the resort. There are many family activities offered and kids’ activities, but not a kids club. We go off-season, in November and prices are very reasonable. In addition to their live mascot, Shadow (a sweetheart of a dog) Pluto’s been coming by to visit the last couple years. And there are Mickey Bars and Dole Whips!

I was just looking online and seems like you can get better last rates by booking direct vs renting points. Does that make sense?
Maybe if we have 70 degree weather over Presidents weekend we’ll try it.
I see rooms for $243.
Is the pool heated?
Is it right on the beach?

We have stayed for cash at good rates off season.
Pool is heated.
Only the Beach house is on the beach. The resort is on Broad Creek. You have access to the Beach House if you are staying at the resort. There is a shuttle, you can ride a bike over, or your car. Walking would be possible, too.
