I would get the Express Pass as I been told is a must.. I however been also told you get rushed and hurried through the houses like cattle.. Sure is not a museum I dont plan to linger but I also dont want to be pushed through and not even enjoy it.. For what I am going to pay I can instead get
A) seasonal pass to Universal
B) Seasonal Pass to SeaWorld/Aquatica..

I'm completely and totally addicted to HHN.

I go multiple nights

Some nights are crowded more than others.

All a personal decision if a person buys express.

If you only have one night, it's a plus to have the ep

I buy the plus pass that includes the ep whether I need it or not

I compare it to car insuration
Have full coverage just in case I need it

yeah for sure I would be doing EP... thats why the cost more than doubles.. its not so much about the $$$ because im going to spend it regardless. i am just concerned about the experience.

Is it worth it? That's really up to you. I go every year but after this Friday I will not do Stay & Scream for the rest of the event. That's not worth it for me as I've done all the houses multiple times...so there's no need. Plus I have Express so it's a win-win.

I personally wish the lines went a little slower, just so I could really take in the scenery and sets. Having said that, yes the experience, in my opinion, is totally worth the money. You still have time to see whats going on in each room, just maybe not as much time as you'd really like. If you are at all interested in the event, then you really should try it. And you'd be doing it the right way with an express pass.

In addition to the answers provided, note that the lines (standby and EP) merge before entering the houses themselves, so the speed with which they push you through the houses doesn't depend on how you entered the line. EP won't matter in that regard.

I think the worst example of merging too soon is AHS but at least the queue is indoors. Sunday night the inside queue was nearly pitch black...I kept running into the guy in front of me. The only house that was a cluster with EP was Blumhouse...we waited almost 30 minutes in the Express line. None of the other houses had bad waits.

Since most people are telling you whether they think it's worth it, or not, I am going to give you some tips just in case you do not think it is worth it to help you out.

- I recommend going Wednesday, Thursday, or Sunday.
Wednesday and Thursday are weekdays and have less of a crowd, as well as are less money. Also, Sundays I would recommend if you can only do weekends, as Sundays (in general when it comes to the parks) are less crowded, since typically by Monday people have to go back to reality / work / school.

- Pick a date as soon as possible.
I cannot state for a fact, but I would imagine closer to Halloween it's going to get busier and busier. However, I've been told in September in general is not too crazy crowd wise. So, if you cannot make it by the end of the month (which is only a few days away), pick a date as soon as you can away from Halloween.

- Go as early as possible.
Probably something you'd assume already, but just saying. I've been there a couple of times while it's still light out (not much of a scary vibe), but wait times manage to be not too drastically long for a little bit. Also, I've been there in the past when they usually let guests in early before the official time starts. I have no idea if that is always the case, mostly the case, or rarely done, but in the few times I've been it's always seemed to happen, but it's been a couple of years since I've went. Which would be a good advantage.

- Know what you want and where to go.
Once again, might be already assumed, but it's probably a good idea to have a good idea on what you want to do, where to go, and move with a purpose. If houses are really important to you, but you want to enjoy the little things as well, you can always enjoy those little things later. Also, if you want to do it all, or most of the haunted houses, you got two options. Go with the first you see (which is from the entrance down to New York), or cut through Hollywood BLVD and go to the other side of the park (since most people wouldn't be going that way). Entrance to New York are four houses, where as Hollywood down to near MIB has five houses along the way.

I would get EP.

No such thing as a quiet night now........Sunday night was one of the busiest I've seen so far this year. We missed opening night but I heard from Metro West and others it was busy!

Saturday was the quietest.......not quiet though.........

Is it worth it........absolutely.......you can dress it up any way you like......bottom line is, if you don't like to queue some crazy times in tremendous heat........get the EP. We wouldn't do HHN without it.......

And even though this year is our least favourite in last 10 years, yes, still worth it.

For us it's worth it, we enjoy HHN very, very much.

We book the non-private RIP tour for one night and then use our Express Pass for the next night. We hit our favorite Houses 1st thing, with smaller lines and then use our EP to hit our favorite Houses again.

I never felt rushed through the Houses. There are employees in the Houses to make sure the line is moving, but I never felt like I was pushed along.

I do feel they push you through and it really is just a conga line through the houses. People behind you are pushing you forward as well.

Even when it is slow - they are pushing you through - your trying to look at things and enjoy it - but even when there is no one behind you there are employees trying to get you to move on

If you have limited time yes EP is the way to go - I went six nights so I really did not need it.
If you get in before the park closes for the day and wait in the holding area you can get to 2-3 houses pretty quickly - I did 5 houses one night by 7PM - it all depends on luck and which houses open early

If you really want to check out the houses in detail it sounds like the best option is a daytime unmasking tour.

You know that's the one thing that really irritates me about the houses. We were temporarily stuck in Scarecrow (not sure why the line stopped) but they were motioning and telling us to move along. How are we supposed to move along when the line is stopped? Very annoying.

We have been going to HHN for quite a few years now BUT, we took off last year and this year due to the conga line effect and just a feeling of hurry hurry hurry. I'm sure we will be back next year though.
