Is H&V really that bad?

I don't think I have come across any good reviews of this place. We are considering for dinner package in August, what do you think?

Not sure about dinner but we went for breakfast and had a very good meal. It was one of the best breakfast we had the whole trip.

we liked it last May...had it for the Fantasmic dinner package on the DDP. We found the hot foods hot, cold foods cold, nice variety, messes cleaned up immediately, foods replenished constantly. Lovely dessert selection, good service.

Don't know what people are expecting...it's a Disney buffet. Better than a Golden Corral or Old Country Buffet. Not quite as good as the top Vegas buffets...but good food.

Figure there are hundreds of people eating there every day who enjoyed the food and don't bother to come on a Disney forum & tell you about it. If the food was really that bad, there would always be a long line of angry people demanding their money back. I've walked past the place many times & never saw any mob scene of irate customers...

I think its bad. The hot food was hot, but had no taste. The cold food was cold, but again had no taste. The only dessert that we had that was edible was the tiny cheesecakes, thats all my niece ate while we dined there, and let me tell you, she is an eater. Out of the six of us, no one in our party said they would go back again. Thats just a matter of opinion though. Everyone is different, so maybe one doesn't like it, and then again someone else might rave about it, but you won't see me giving any good reviews here. I complained about it to the manager. The only thing that we got out of it was a fast pass. Another couple sitting next to us was talking and I overheard them, the husband said to his wife, "this place is horrible, make sure we never come back here again, his wife agreed with him also. Try it though, you may love it, but we didn't.

We haven't been since May 07, but we did think it was pretty bad. I normally am like 'ok, its a buffet, don't expect too much', but the day we went it was just not good. There was a long wait despite our ADR, there was not much variety, and the food was just bland. Our service was fine, but we just did not enjoy it. But, that was a long time ago, and we could have just been there on an off night.

We also went to Tony's for lunch, which is another that gets bad reviews on here. We really liked it!

Sooooo....If you are willing to take a chance, try it for yourself. It seems there are always a lot of differing opinions about food, so you might like it!

We had a fantasmic dinner package in December 2007 there. It was ok, the food was kind of tasteless, the place seemed like it was lacking something. I said it was bad, DH said it was ok, I don't see us coming back.

remember that each person has a different like and dislike on all the restaurants....I didnt mind it and neither did our party of 9....Some people are not happy with the run of the mill buffet food but we thought it was not bad at all.....

some people actually dont like Le Cellier or San Angel Inn....so to each their own

We ate there a few years ago and have not been back. I didn't care for it at all. There wasn't much the kids would eat. My niece loved the cute little pumkin pies.

I can't think of a place I would rather eat at LESS than H&V. Maybe a mexican place since I hate mexican food. But seriously I would rather aet at Ponderosa, Denny's, Mcdonalds, etc before eating here again

My family enjoyed our meal here. I think we did one thing that made all the difference in the world. Our ADR was for 3:50 pm!

With DS, then 6, I didn't want to eat a meal and then rush over to see the show. Seemed like a whole lot of sitting in a row for an active boy. So I made the early ADR. Then we could walk around and ride a few inbetween linner (you know that lunch/dinner combo?) and Fantasmic!

Also, I wanted to grab some snacks before Fantasmic and actually have an appetite for them while we waited for the show and watched it.

Our food was fine. The hot was hot. The cold was cold. The selection for desserts was really, really good. Our server was really nice. Some food was better than others, definitely. And, WOW, DH and I feel in LOVE with the corn spoonbread? I think it was called. YUM!

I can tell you that it took forever to get our check dealt with. I should have dealt with it shortly after sitting down. When we were seated, we were the only ones in our section. When we were trying to leave, the restaurant was PACKED and the waiting area was PACKED. There was a huge difference in noise level, line level, etc.

Based on what I read here on the Dis, my conclusion is that TIMING is crucial when considering H&V. I think it makes all the difference in the world.

Call us crazy, but we love the H & V! The spooned cornbread, mussles and peel and eat shrimp we always eat loads of! Some things are not that great like any other buffet, but there is plenty to satisfy our group, they even bring horseradish for the prime rib on request! The key lime tartletts and chocolate mouse tartletts are always a favorite as well! Of course some people hate it, but IMO it doesnt deserve all the wrath that it receives on here.

If you get the Fantasmic package, then it's completely worth it to eat at H&V. As stated before, try to have an early dinner and you'll probably be pleasantly surprised. All in all, not the best of all Disney restaurants, but there are many choices and something for everyone.

We were pleasantly surprised with our dinner there. We're not foodies, though; we're meat and potatoes type of people. here's my plate:

I thought our server was fantastic; the food was good - not terrific, but like a PP said, much better than old country buffet. My only disappointment was how LOUD the restaurant is, due to the theme - 50's cafeteria = lots of chrome and mirrors, not enough fabric to muffle ALL the sounds around you.

We did wait the longest for that ADR as well, but oh well... we got to people watch while we waited.
