Is GRR at DCA longer than KRR at AK??

My DD loves this type of ride and since we are staying on S. Harbor(Fairfield Inn), we could make a mad dash after a ride or two to get changed.


My question is...For those who have been on both, I hear that KRR at AK is really short and I was wondering if GRR is about the same or quite a bit longer?

GRR is longer and a more exciting rapid ride compared to KRR. KRR is just very.....lackluster compared to GRR. Don't get me wrong. KRR is fun. But GRR is MORE fun!

My recollection is that Kali was very short. You go down a few small drops, a couple of twists and turns, and tada, you're done. A whole lot of wet for not a whole lot of fun.

Thanks! I was in Borders last weekend and browsing through the "unofficial" guides to WDW and DLR and I thought it stated that both GRR and KRR were around 5 minutes long(I am assuming this is from the time you sit down until the time you get up to get off the ride).

They could be very close in actual length/ride time. It's so hard to judge something like that when you're actually on the rides and having fun, you know what I mean?.

Maybe GRR seems longer to people because it has more drops and rapids? I'm not sure why it seems longer than KRR. But really, whether it's longer or not doesn't really matter. Just know that GRR is a very fun raft ride and if you like raft rides, you'll have a great time on it.

GRR is much more fun than KRR. The raft moves faster than Kali's. It may be the same length, but to me it (GRR) feels longer. Another nice thing is that the drier air at DL vs the humid air at WDW makes your clothes dry much faster.

Everytime I ride Kali, I wonder why I bothered! Once you do GRR, Kali is pretty lame.

Okay - here's the poop. I once spoke with the mom of an imagineer on the project - both rides are exactly identical. They are the same track/waterway layout and everything. It's the themeing that makes them feel different. This is also true for DL's Indy and Dinosaur at AK. Only diff is sets, lighting, and the fact that Dinosaur doesn't stop and pause for interaction with the scenery. The individual guest's perceptions can ause people to think otherwise.

What it boils down to is the following.... This is a very inexpensive way for companies to reduce expenses on designing and opening a new attraction. Besides, if the design works, why mess with it?!

See I would swear that GRR and Kali are not identical. GRR has two drops, Kali has one. Also, that drop on Kali is in a different spot than the final drop on GRR.

I also looked on wikipedia, and GRR is a minute shorter. But that may be because it just runs faster not a difference in the track.

I can see that much more with Dinosaur and Indy than GRR and Kali. But as you say, they may just do a very good job of making you feel they are different.

That's because the drop is right there for you to see from the queue. Not so at KRR. The drop is right there at the burning logging camp. Same thing. I'm normally a drop weanie, so believe me when I say I know my drops.

Think about it. They design and open a big ride that works well in one location. How cheap is it to pull the blueprints and retheme....

I do hear what you are saying and I respect your perspective. It just happens though that the logging area drop is the exact same big drop.

Why doesn't it seem that way? It's the way the area around the drop is landscaped. They use the same perspective changes at various levels of Splash mountain to hide the distancing of drops. If you can't see a drop to it's full extent, you can't really determine it's actual length - hence the perception issue. Can you tell the actual heights when you are riding Pirates, for example? How big is each drop in DL vs the single in WDW?

At GRR is it much more open that at Kali. They have the area landscaped for the sloped path and stairs that lead down to the viewing platform (which sent my toddler to the hospital for 5 stitches - but that is another story), as well as the path that runs past the queue area. The design hope is that having the guests view the drop will cause more people to be interested in riding it. Not so for Kali. Because of the location of the Maharajah Jungle Trek, they couldn't/didn't run the queuing area through that portion of the ride. Therefore, they could build up the slopes that surround the drop area and make it seem not as severe.

Due to the landscaping, the drop in Kali is there and gone before you know it. The landscaping also blocks the view of it once it has occured. Not so with GRR.
