Is Frontline for dogs safe around kids?

We got some of the stuff you put on the dog's neck to kills fleas, ticks, etc. Do you have to wait for it to dry for the dog to be in the house around children? I don't plan on willfully touching it but you never know with kiddos. Thanks!

I don't know if this will help you or not.

I do put on gloves before I apply it.

We put frontline on our "baby" at night, just before we go to bed. I'm not too worried about our DD getting into it, she is 14, and she either sleeps late (that's what summer is for) or she goes to school. So, the stuff has a good amount of time to dry before we are petting him or playing with him.

BTW - our baby is a 70#, 10 years old

I think it is alcohol based, so it drys quickly. It seems to take about 20 minutes or so to dry on my dogs. One is 30 lbs, other is 13 lbs.

The packaging doesn't specify any period of time not to touch, but I think we always told DD not to touch the area for at least a day or two. I always thought the the animal shouldn't be bathed two weeks before or after treatment, but I've since been told that it's not necessary to wait.

We do the same as PP. Once a month before bed, the girls get Hartgard and then Frontline. By morning the area is completely absorbed so no worries.

As soon as the coat is dry. It is recommended that animals are treated in the early evening and not allowed to sleep with their owners especially children.

After application to the surface of the skin, the active ingredient (fipronil) dissolves in the sebum which is the natural oils covering the hair and skin. It then spreads to all areas of the body surface within 24 hours of application in 2 ways: It moves down a concentration gradient (osmolarity) from the point of application within the sebum. The normal body movement of the animal acts to encourage the spread across the skin.

After application of FRONTLINE, the alcohol carrier evaporates leaving the active ingredient fipronil, dissolved in the sebum covering the hair and skin. Fipronil then concentrates in the sebaceous glands in the skin which supply the natural oils that help to condition the skin and coat of cats and dogs. The sebaceous glands act as a reservoir which continues to supply the coat and skin with sebum and dissolved fipronil and helps to explain why FRONTLINE continues to work for so long even after bathing and shampooing.

I am not sure it is wise to treat the children with Frontline, no matter how bad their fleas are.....oh, you mean touching the DOG after it is treated?? Oh, just follow the directions, as others have stated, and don't let your kids lick the dog for a few days! We have used it for years and our kids don't appear to be glowing green or licking themselves in weird places or anything! OTH, they ARE preteen and teen now- maybe the Frontline caused the moodiness, talking back and avoiding their chores!

So the frontline is causing the attitudes! My DD (14) keeps trying to blame me!
