Is FJ a simulator?

My father cannot tolerate rides like Star Tours or the old Body Wars and had a tough time with the old Back to the Future. They make him very sick.

Without ruining what happens on the ride, can anyone tell me if my dad will need to skip this one (or take some dramamine or something the night before)??

I get motion sick on those rides too but have found the transdermal scopolamine patch my doctor prescribes works terrific! Not sure if m dad will get the patch too.

It is a motion simulator, and although I don't think it is intense at all, general consensus says that it is a pretty intense ride.

Closer to Spiderman, but without the 3D. People who don't like Body Wars or Star Tours won't like FJ.

Think of Back to the Future. Now assume the DeLorean not only goes in multiple directions but actually moves forward on a track.

I just watched a video on youtube of Legoland .. a robotic
arm. Maybe it was in CA, not sure.
Anyway, holy cow! Is this what we can expect of FJ?
That a lot of being thrown around. lol!

The arm you saw in the video is basically the same ride VEHICLE used in Forbidden Journey. Now that arm in CA (and even the ones used in Epcot at Sum of all Thrills) are bolted to the ground, but the arm can move every which way. Forbidden Journey does the same thing, but the ride movements on FJ do NOT go upside down. There are points on the ride where the arm does point upwards, laying on your back, but you will NOT be turned upside down.

It's really hard to describe, but basically, take that arm that you saw on that video, and put it on a ride track. The arm rolls through the ride track, past different show scenes and animitronics, and projected movie screens as well, and the arm hydraulics are moving you around to face different scenes and move to simulate flying. The movement is really smooth and nothing is too terribly jerking.

On a side note, the fact that it's very hard to describe what kind of ride this is make you know what kind of ride it truly is...one of a kind. ;)

EDIT: The reason the arms in Epcot and CA seem so disorienting and rough is because they were built to showcase the extreme movement that is capable when using these robotic arms as theme park rides. Universal took that system, put it on a Spiderman style ride track, but toned the extreme movement of the arm way down. The arm will still move you around and turn you sideways at some point, but nothing like the head over heels movements you see at Epcot or CA.

I hate Body Wars and Star Tours and love FJ. I also hated Back to the Future.

There are parts of FJ that are simulator and parts that aren't. Your robotic arm carries you through some scenes with animatronics but it also parks you in front of some small domed screens to watch some Quidditch action. It is these simulated Quidditch matches that made me ill. Keeping my eyes closed on these parts eliminates my motion sickness.

Well, my dad loves Spiderman and Soarin'. Back to the Future was not good at all for him and neither are Star Tours or the old Body Wars. Maybe I will encourage him to take a dramamine the night before just in case. We are planning to do MNSSHP that night after visiting IoA and I'd hate for him to be miserable and sick at the party.

Yes, better safe than sorry. A dramamine the night before works wonders for me.

It's not at all jerky or rough, I found Back to the Future to be a rough ride. But it is very thrilling. And laying you on your back, it's kind of like being in a dentist's chair. You are not upside down at all. I agree, it's a safe idea to be prepared for possible motion sickness - I was queasy a little at the end, although I was fine by the time I left the building. But when I got to the front of the line, they did have the ride shut down for a couple of minutes to clean up someone else's, erm, motion sickness. Forewarned is forearmed and all.

You just described my hubby. Our first time I begged him to hold my purse and let me ride it first to see if he could handle it. He was going to.. but an employee at the front saw him take my purse and convinced him he couldn't miss it! He didn't do so well. I would say take the meds and go on an empty stomach.

The ride is amazing and I will ride it everytime we go. It just isn't his thing. Same way I can't ride Hulk or RRR. I agree everyone should ride it once since it isn't like anything else.
