Assuming you are a total chicken and usually only do rides like PPF or TSM? I'm trying to figure out if I should get an FP+ for it. TIA!

Can you handle POTC it's a similar boat ride with a small drop backwards, if you can handle pirates you should be fine .

The actual "drop" of any size is forward-facing.

There is a slight "decline" section that is facing backward.

The backwards drop isn't especially big, and none of the animatronics or music is scary. While it's okay for all ages, I wouldn't take a babe in arms on it, just because the ride mechanism is not especially smooth.

I thought it was such a beautiful ride that I'm sure you can distract yourself from the small "drops" by looking around at all the scenery and effects!

The only time I've been frightened is when Sven's eyes malfunctioned, and glowed zombie neon green. Aside from that... there is a small forwards drop (closer to Pirates than Splash) but nothing frightening in the scenes.

I am a total chicken and I was okay with FEA. The drop on Pirates is far more ramatic - so if you can do pirates, you can easily do FEA.

If you have been on Maelstrom, it is essentially the same. Our family did not find it scary at all.

I guess it depends on your fear threshold. If you went on Maelstrom, it's very similar in lighting and tone, and the ride track is exactly the same. I don't like thrill rides at all, but I always liked Maelstrom, and I am a Frozen fan, so I like the ride a lot. I think the scariest thing would be to be on the ride when the animatronic face projections mess up - a faceless Anna or Elsa could be traumatic!

My daughter gets apprehensive on dark rides. She was not scared of all of Frozen and loved it. I would put on the same level of scariness as Winnie the Pooh. No comparison to PotC. Face projections are beautiful and amazing. Ride is pretty short compared to wait to go without fastpass, however it is probably one of the best low intensity rides at WDW.

DD was 4.5y this year and scared of EVERYTHING dark. Even in line for FEA she was freaking out and fussing about Marshmallow being scary and dark being scary and her face is pure panic in the photo op.
My husband thought the backwards "drop" was unsettling but not scary (and he loves PotC, but hates most drops and chickened out on Soarin' his first try due to all the warnings about heights). He liked the ride and would do it again.

You see the drop forward so if you focus on that, It could be a little scary.. it's not much of a drop though.
