Is everything normal in your neck of the woods?

All casinos closed in Illinois!

Good for Illinois! :thumbsup2 Firekeepers in Battle Creek is having a huge drawing today. I, of course, have chosen not to go but dang; all those people together........I thought that wasn't suppose to happen now?

Our school said no closure. Then that those of us on the Disney trip were going to have to be temperature checked before we were allowed off the bus....never mind the facet that MANY other student groups went to games and stuff during the break. And you can’t tell me the other 95% of the district stayed indoors 24/7. Then 6 hours later they decided to close school for the week after all. First parents were complaining they didn’t want to send their kids to school and be “exposed” to us (yes, we are being called out and ostracized like patient zero leper zombies). Then when cancelled they started complaining about how they would find child care and meals and what not. They are still planning on temp checking us but I will be refusing. They don’t need to track me if they aren’t going to also track the other 95%

Looks like the casinos (IL aside) are the only group not being responsible at this point. Who is shocked that casinos would put $ ahead of the welfare of their customers? I mean, their entire existence is based on them taking advantage of their customers. :sad2:

Well, on the plus side, gas cost me $1.99 a gallon tonight. I haven't seen it that low in a while!

The irony here is that I am used to hurricane prep crazy time. And almost the FIRST thing to always get or pay attention to is gas, is your tank filled? Do you have extra cans? lol and it hasn't crossed my mind once during this time to check my tank

Sadly we cant flee this like a storm front!

Today was eerie ! Went to the Staten Island mall- which, on any other beautiful Saturday, would have been absolutely packed - even by 10:30 am - it was a ghost town! The food court was absolutely empty - took me around 10 mins to drive home - normally takes me 30-40 - of no surprise - the most crowded store ( basically the only crowded store) was Bath and Body - they just received a shipment of pocket bac hand sanitizers !

LOL to the store that is closing down forever (BB+B) for hand sanitizer!
I wanted to make potstickers today but need a dumpling press for DGD to use (I'm in production mode right now) and he's dragging his feet to get it from the closest BB+B to us (Bronx Terminal Mkt). Guess we'll make them tomorrow and I'll just finish up the other foods I'm making.

Yes, I think people are getting the message and just staying safe at home.

I think the previous poster is referring to Bath & Body Works for the hand sanitizer, not Bed, Bath, Beyond. Although I went to Bed, Bath & Beyond on Monday night when I was preparing for my quarantine for a soda stream refill for my bubbly water maker.

  • Our oldest DD learned yesterday that WGI (winter guard) regional championships for high school has been canceled and upcoming competitions canceled.
My son's winter drumline too. I am grateful he isn't a senior but I feel so bad for the kids who are! Even after Dayton got canceled (we wouldn't have gone to that anyway), and then the Power Regionals got canceled, we held out hope that our local WGAZ events would still continue. In fact my school was supposed to have been hosting a Guard show right now.

Yea, this was Bath and Body works - everyone that walked past us had a bag from the store !! Luckily, they were limiting the sanitizers to 10 per family

Other than the craziness at BJs yesterday morning it seems pretty normal out there.
Dh and I just returned home and driving down the main road through the county was the same as any other Saturday evening. Restaurants and shopping centers packed with cars.
We have a few confirmed cases here and the county executive of course is asking everyone to practice "social distancing" but he's also refusing to release any info on where in the county these cases are located. Maybe people are being rebellious.

Public panic is setting in here in the U.K. Cases have reached most areas and in my neck of the woods, with confirmed cases, it really does feel odd. Supermarket aisles are sometimes completely empty with people bulk buying toilet roll, soap, hand sanitiser and cupboard essentials. Town centres are very quiet compared to usual. You have the occasional person wearing a face mask in London, but it hasn’t become the norm yet. All shops are still open but conferences and meetings are getting cancelled and people are trying to stay at home.

Flew back from San Francisco this morning. I'd say the airport was a relative ghost town. We literally walked right up to the bag check (no waiting) and then straight through TSA (no one in front of us and several "waiting" agents). That was weird. Flight had 40+ empty seats, which was pretty empty. Drove home and stopped at our favorite neighborhood joint which was also a ghost town. That made me sad. It's not 'normal' at all here.
ETA: One BIG change from when we flew to San Francisco. We flew 'comfort plus" both directions. On the way out, they passed a snack basket and invited you to take what you wanted. on the way back, the flight attendant specifically said "i'll hand it to you." No on was invited to touch the packaged snacks. Also, every single person had wipes to clean their seat area. That was also bizarre. We all laughed about it, but everyone was doing it.

Many of the big money making events for our city have been cancelled. The mayor said today that three of the cancelled events would have brought in about $90 million. Better safe than sorry but I hate to see tax increases next year. The hotel and restaurant business will be taking a big hit without the people from out of town who come for the College World Series and Berkshire Hathaway weekend. So far the Olympic Swim Trials haven't been cancelled.
