Is Every Year too often?

We are going on trip #8 since 2004 with two DCL last year! We are also going in Sept for two weeks. We try to go for about two weeks at a time twice a year! My kids love it!

We try to go to Disney every year. This is what it looks like for us:
1993- engaged
1994-honeymoon
1996-DS first birthday
1999-DD first time
2000
2001
2002- twice
2003
2004
2006
and we are going in May!

So we never get tired of Disney. It is our Happy Place!!!

I'm going to be the voice of opposition & say that every year is too often if you're not doing any other vacations throughout the rest of the year. There is more to the world than Disney & I believe kids should experience as much of it as possible.
We took our kids to Disneyland when they were little (2 & 5), did a cruise last year & plan on taking them to WDW in probably 2009 (our last chance to go off-season). But we've also visited a dormant volcano in New Mexico, seen Shamu in San Diego & San Antonio, petted a hissing cockroach in Victoria, BC, Canada and this summer we're taking a bite out of the Big Apple.
I grew up vacationing with my family every year. I saw the Constitution, Mt Rushmore, Gettysburg, The Grand Canyon & many other historical & natural wonders. When we talked about the Declaration of Independence it wasn't just something I read about in a book because I had seen it. I better understood the scope of the Grand Canyon because I had seen it. My world was greatly expanded beyond my tiny little town because I had traveled.

You're not alone! I also think that Disney-only vacations are just too limiting for my family. I grew up NEVER going on vacation, so I want to see more of the world, too! So far, my girls have been to Niagara Falls, NYC, the Jersey shore, and Mystic CT. (not too exciting, but it's a start!) After Disney, we plan on vacations to the Rocky Mountains, the Grand Canyon, Washington DC and MUCH MUCH MORE! My brother and SIL rent a villa in Mexico every year, and as soon as our DDs are old enough, we'll join them at least once -- who wouldn't want to ride a horse through a real rain forest?!? We want to go to Ireland and Scotland, where our ancestors lived.

I don't bash anyone who wants to do Disney every year. But *I* want more.

NO!!! I would go more than that if my budget allowed me. There are numerous things to keep the magic. My parents have gone every year since 1987 - last year they went 4 times! And there are still things that they have not seen or done!

Well we started off with a once in a lifetime trip to WDW in 2004. That one in a lifetime trip has turned into an annual trip plus we took an additional mini trip to DL this year. We love Disney and look forward to it. I do worry that my kids grow up thinking that Disney is no big deal because we go every year. I am constantly reminding them that other kids do not get to go ever so hopefully they will appreciate how lucky they are to go all the time.

This might be off topic but does anyone else get tired of having to explain their Disney addiction? Other people dont get it. I have stopped telling people because they say things like 'why are you going there again'. Or behind our backs people ask how can the afford to go every year?

We haven't been there in 10 years, but I think every year would be too much for us. For many years we were going to Hershey every year, just because it was close enough to drive and I like the country, but we got a little sick of it.

If we can afford it, I would like to do Disney this year, and next year my DS wants to go to Canada because they learned a lot about it in Social Studies and he wants to see some of the things they talked about. Then maybe Disney again the year after that, before they get too big for it.

I don't think so. I'll go every year as long as I can. If we ever get bored we can take a year off, but that hasn't happened yet.

This is our exact story! We started with a 'once in a lifetime' trip in 04 and have been back 3 times since then! Currently planning one for May...but i will say that my oldest child is getting a little annoyed by all the Disney talk all the time. We do a lot of 3 day weekend trips...I didn't do alot of 'family' traveling when i was a kid, so i really want my kids to see the world first hand. Weekend trips have included: Hot Springs, the Arkansas Diamond Mine, Blanchard Springs caverns, Branson...places that are within driving distance. When i get more vacation (another week in 2009) we will be heading out west for some Grand Canyon action...right now, I'm currently planning 2 trips for the summer; Cedar Point and Gulf Shores.

We are DVC members, but we save the points for certain times of year(Thanksgiving at WDW Spring Break at Vero Beach).

I love to travel, eldest son can't wait to get to London(we told him his little brother has to be a bit older), well I haven't been in 5yrs so I am waiting too.

We're doing an Alaska cruise for our 15th in 2009 and London might get thrown in on a visit to DH's relatives in Sweden & Poland. Plus our old favorite of Northern Michigan will be revisited.

Oops forgot the little guy wants to go to NYC! He just reminded me, must have seen something on CNBC(backround shot of a big city).

We don't intend to spend every vacation at WDW, but a choice few.

We love DW but go every other year. My dks have been 3 years in a row IF we count a short stay at POP last summer before our DCL!! I could cruise every year but my dks (especially dd 13) are ready for something else. There is so much more to see and do!!

theres no reason why you sholdnt go every year - with the kids growing theres different things they'll want to do and can do and with all the resorts you can change every year and it will feel like a different holiday every time.

on the other hand I believe in travelling to many other places with kids - growing up in Europe compared to the US we have generally had far more expereince of international travel due to not having many things in the UK.

I think exposing kids to different cultures, languages and ethnicities is a wonderful thing.

But if I could do both every year I would!!

We have been going once a year. The first few trips we went to the parks every day. On our last trip, we only went to one Disney park and we also went to Sea World for the first time. We spent four days at the pool and that was so nice. Now for us, finding and awesome rental home to enjoy is half the fun. The family time is the magic for us and those days we go to the parks only adds to the magic.

It would be too often for me and my family. I think the trips would just begin to blur together in the children's memories. We went in 2001 (only had one toddler at the time), 2004 (ages 2 and 4), and will be going again for a birthday trip in 2008 when they will be turning 6 and 8 - Disney is magical and I would worry that it would become old hat or worse, expected. Familiarity can breed contempt as the saying goes. I want to give my children memories of the rest of this big world, too. We are applying for their passports tomorrow and although we have no plans for this summer, if a great travel opportunity comes up I want to be able to grab it and go.
