Is EPCOT a fun place for younger kids

I'm blabbering all the time about Disney to my kids. We have watched the planning videos several times. We are celebrating my sons 8th birthday at Disney and I asked him what park he would like to spend his special day. He chose EPCOT! He's never been. He's a science kid though. Should have known. Oh and he wants to try sushi at Japan for his birthday dinner.
