I will bet Disney would never had paid for this fiasco.:happytv:

This from TotalFILM.com:

Are you ready for Bazooka Joe?A movie based on a bubble gum wrapper comic BY James White

Just when you thought Hollywood couldn’t find yet another source to mine for movie ideas – Michael Eisner hires a writer to adapt comics found on a bubble gum wrapper.

Yes, the man who used to be in charge at Disney has nabbed newcomer Mark Hammer to write a script based on the Bazooka Joe character (below), which is used to advertise the gum.

The character, who wears a mysterious eye patch (who wants to bet they try to forge an origin story around it?) gets into various scrapes assisted by a group of friends.

There’s the likes of Pesty, Mort, Toughie, Hungry Herman, Jane and a dog called Walkie Talkie. We’re not making this up.

It’s been around since the 1950s, and is a well-known property across the pond, though may be a harder sell on these shores.

In response, we’d like to pitch a film – likely a horror- based around Bertie Bassett, though with a slightly less ridiculous treatment than he received on Dr Who back in the ‘80s.

I think it depends on how it is done. If they market the return of the gum in conjunction with it, it might hit a nostaglic note. Eisner used to be creative so lets see what happens.

Well, let's see... there have been 'crazier' movie ideas floated - and ultimately filmed (and heck, there's always direct-to-dvd).

Just because a script is written and submitted doesn't mean a movie will ever get made based on it.

And, heck - Bazooka Joe is still around? C'mon, P.I. - you've got to consider its life span. Has to have been around for at least fifty years. It's iconic.

People make movies using sillier bases...

Beverly Hills Chihuahua anyone? This could be great, I think. But it's probably going to be rejected anyways. I don't think Disney wants to do that right now.

I don't see how it is any different than some of the other movies I have seen out there. Do we really need a movie based on Land of the Lost?

Couldn't be any worse than Home on the Range or Chicken Little...:scared:

Yeah, but where does it end? Are we to expect a Pez movie soon too? :goodvibes

I don't think Disney is related to this one. It appears this is Eisner going his own way.

True. Next we'll be seeing Smurfs or Huckleberry Hound on the big screen. Oy!

True. Hollyweird has been out of ideas for way too long. Back in the days of Snow White, they made movies that were good stories, and they became magic. Today, they try to force the magic into the movie, and it winds up mediocre at best.

Crazy? Bazooka Joe is totally cool. I use to love those cartoons, and let's face it...Even bad hero/superhero/cool military guy movies are pretty fun to watch. I'd go see it and I'm a girl.:happytv:

I miss Bazooka, have not seen it for years. The gum was nasty but the comics...sweet!
