I've bought a few things on ebay recently. And I've been watching a variety of items. It looks like sales may be picking up. Good deals too! I don't know if it's just for the items I was interested in or if it's an overall thing. But it's interesting! I may start listing again. :)

Maybe the economy is having a positive impact on Ebay? I've read where that is the case with McDonalds. What do you think?

I think its probably helping those who are offering real bargains. I've made a few more purchases because the prices were so much better. 4 Manga books for $5 (that includes shipping) is hard to beat. However, I have noticed that those who are offering things at full price are not seeing a lot of business.

I wanted to earn $75 for something I *need* ;) for scrapbooking. So I motivated myself into pulling out 1 bin of DD clothes. It took me 8 hours last Monday to iron everything, take pictures then list them. I listed 16 auctions with a goal of $100 - I ended up making $209.00!:thumbsup2
Of course this morning I wake up to an email from one buyer saying she didn't look at my pictures close enough before she won, and now she doesn't want it. :rolleyes2 Even after letting her off the hook..I still end up with a little less than $200! It was definately worth my time and effort. :)

I think only bargains are selling right now..ebays stock is pretty down right now too. Alot of bad buyers are coming out of the woodwork too so be careful

Ebay is in real trouble. They may not make it out of the recession. Stock price is at lowest level since 2001 and has dropped like 70% in the last 6 months

Oh. Not good. Sigh. I just wish the policies weren't so lopsided. Between that and the fees it's driven away a lot of people. I do hope for a come back, but it would be a better bet if the powers that be at Ebay would bend a little.

That's great! Makes me want to clean out my closets! :)

I just bought a couple things off E-bay for the first time in months.

DW and I used to sell a ton on eBay, but the fees and the endless new policies really drove us away. I felt like I was at Hogwarts and every day there was a new Umbridge decree on eBay :lmao:

I think Craigslist has a lot to do with it, too. CL is exactly what eBay used to be--simple peer ro peer buying and selling. Now eBay just has too many policies and is too involved.

That being said, if there is a comeback for eBay, I may check it out again. Some things sell better on eBay than CL.

No One needs to really read this, I just need to VENT IT!

That was nice of you. Even though it was an inconvienance you cared.

I have always had good luck with my purchases and love making friends with Ebay folks. But recently I got yelled at by this guy.

I bought my d-sis a camera like mine, I paid over $500 in 2001 for it.
This was a good deal; the set was a lot of extras, which I already have. But when she unpacked the camera by the LCD screen was a gouge a half inch long that was not disclosed. She had a real concern about moisture getting in it. I did too.

I then bought a second camera for her the next week to go with the extras.
I did ask the seller why he did not disclose the flaw and he said he said it was in good working condition. The extras were great, had the camera not been dropped hard enough to gouge it.

What I had asked was for 1/2 the shipping cost reimbursed, as I had paid to purchase the same camera "in Good Working condition".
He carried on with 5 paragraphs of hostile things about he did not need to disclose the damage he said good condition, About coming back from vacation and finding the email, that he was going away for 5 weeks and did not want me to bother him again.....
But why hide the gouge so I did not have a choice in passing the set up?

I did not ask him to take the entire set back, I only asked for half the shipping. So I would have a working camera and eat the loss of his camera.

Maybe I expected something too much, but had I known about the flaw I never would have bought the item at all. Not even for the extras. There are the sets on Ebay all the time.

Is it because he was a man seller, or was it because I was not suppose to notice the damaged area? He did not take a picture of the back of the camera.
He is a seller of professional camera and photo related items...

He should of known the buyer would want to know of the damage. It was not just a older camera he upgraded from. He wanted to dump it, so packed it with some goodies that could only be used with that specific camera.

I just wanted to make it feel right and both of us walk away feeling satisfied with the transaction.

I guess had I opened everything myself I would have just repacked it and sent it all back.
But, I would never even put his camera on ebay with the damage. No one would want to buy something that would not serve the purpose. the extras are manufacter specific for that model only I can't even use it on the newest camera I have from the same manufacture.

Sorry to go on and on, but he was so long and laid into me so bad and had the final word...including NOT giving me the 1/2 postage.
I did not ever leave feedback.

I do selling, and it is part of I have things no longer needed and I know other can use. Like the gal that spotted a pair of earrings I never wore that were exactly like ones her Mother got her 35 years before that the dog ate one.

That is Ebay to me! :confused3

But, I have my gf wanting me to help her sell and I have had a lot of luck on Etsy, nothing on craigs list, but 1/2 of what I listed on Ebay sold. then the postage is so much anymore, the fees. ERGH.
Well, I feel better......

PS-Oh, if anyone has a dd Meghan, there is a Disney embroiderd jacket relisted for $2. NOT BUY ME!!!! I noticed it in a search for price comparrison. only......

I really dont see it being worth it as a seller for the stuff I sell- kids clothing anymore.

I've heard this as well..

I know that more people are out spending money since they have received their income tax returns already, so that may be a big part of it.. I wouldn't expect the increase in sales to last very long..

I would be surprised if eBay lasts another 5 years - tops..

For buying you might find great deals using Ebay.

As a seller you aren't going to be making money by selling.

I've been looking to add to an AG collection for granddaughters and those items are selling at a good price ( not good for me though!). I have only bought things that were less than the AG catalog(with the current discount code) or a good price for things now retired so I've been outbid more often than not. I've also bought some nice used Gymbo clothing for my grandson and some children's books at really good prices. I used to sell quite a bit but it's not worth it to me anymore- I'd rather donate my unwanted items even though I could use the money. From the new policies to the new fees and buyer expectations I no longer wish to sell there. I got an email from a seller in a panic that it was going to take her three days to ship something- I was in no hurry. She was worried about her feedback being hurt- wayyy too much stress for me.---Kathy

Yeah. I stopped after the fees went up. It just wasn't worth listing the stuff I did with the fees and increase in shipping costs. I only sold old kids clothes, toys, etc. I didn't have a store and that kind of stuff. Its hard to make money when you sell a girls dress and then have to pay paypal fees, etc.

I still buy though. I just bought a beautiful baby afghan for my nephew-to-be and some specialized baseball cards for another nephews birthday.

I buy collectable older toys (Fisher-Price Little People mainly) on Ebay, and I am still outbid all the time! :confused3

I thought I would start finding more deals with this economy. But still, in the last 6 seconds, I lose just about every auction!

I love the Little people. I have some from my kids that my grandson has now. But, I did find him a Police Woman fisher price little people so he can show everyone his grandmom. He wears his tshirt to school that says my grandmom is a police officer too.

I was looking at your autograph items. I am trying to locate a woman that was at MGM studies the renamed Disney studios. She was in a Roadster and period outfit. Flirt the dickens with my dh, and posed with dd and dh for a picture like she was playing with his ear.

For the life of me I can't decipher her autograph, and can not place her except maybe Mary Popins Alter Ego ;)
Any ideas, I went through your list but nothing struck me as her name or picture. :surfweb: :hippie:

I can't stand the lopsided policies that eBay has now and the fees are excessive. I miss the early days of the site. However, I still find it is worth my time to list clothing I no longer want.

I buy mostly Banana Republic, Ann Taylor and J Crew on sale, and usually end up making back about 30% of what I spent on pieces that are in good condition. If I can make back $10-$15 on a skirt or sweater, it gets listed. I still come out better than I would on consignment.

I think if eBay does go away, some similar site will finally be successful at replacing it.

Before we go saying eBay is in "real trouble", that statement could apply to just about any company, today -- things are tough all over.
