Is EBAY going downhill?

I have been buying off Ebay for years and never once had a problem. Lately, it seems like everything I buy has a problem. Just this month a bought a stroller that was missing a piece. It took me over 3 weeks to get that missing piece sent out to me. Then I bought a wall letter and in the auction it says it will take UP TO 2 weeks to get the product. It has now been 3 1/2 weeks and still I have nothing. It is like the sellers don't care anymore.

I just seems like sellers were really good about things in the past and now they are just doing whatever they want regarless of what their auction says. Maybe I have just gotten lucky in the past but I swear I have never had this problem before. It is frustrating!

I think so...it's the no retaliation thing...no bad feedback thing.
Plus, they charge so much for everythign now....I never go on there anymore.

Yes. There is very little incentive for the little guy to sell there anymore. The fees are ridiculous and you have almost no recourse for people who bid but don't pay.

I could not believe how much people charge for things! Most items I could buy at a store WAY cheaper than what it is selling for on Ebay. That is sad because you used to be able to find some great things on there for a good price.

Well what about people who pay but then the seller does not deliver what they promise? Is there something that they can do?

I don't know since I've never had that happen. I don't buy from ebay very much.

It's been on a steady decline for several years now.. It all started when eBay and Paypal became joined at the hip and proceeded to head in a downward spiral with all of the new rules and regulations..

Recently they made some sort of change - can't remember what it was - but I read a news article that said eBay was in serious trouble and was hoping this new change would pull them out of the ditch..

I enjoyed it at one time - but now we can do so much better with Craigslist I wouldn't dream of returning to eBay again - for selling OR buyng.. Too bad they shot themselves in the foot..

I totally agree. I enjoyed ebaying when I was buying something from someone because they didnt need it anymore. I got a great price, they got rid of some junk. It was fun.
Now everybody has an ebay business with 50000 feedbacks. Its not fun anymore and its a bunch of junk. I hardly even visit the site anymore.

...and down ...and down ...and down!!!

It just keeps getting worse. I don't even have enough time in this day to post all my gripes with Ebay these days!

My biggest gripe from their most recent changes: they are promoting this new "deal" where sellers get their first 5 auctions every month FREE - no listing fees! What they don't want you to know - when you do the math, you end up paying double final value fees on any amount that's over $25 for those auctions. :sad2:

One of my biggest gripes about their upcoming changes: maybe this existed before, but this is the first time I've seen it. They now have wording that states your seller standings/ratings/status can be effected if you speak negatively against Ebay in any way.

I used to buy and sell all the time on ebay. It was a fun way to get rid of clutter and find cute clothes for DD or text books for me. Not anymore; I still look there for text books and won an anatomy book at a good price. I paid for it and the next day the seller emails me and says they're on vacation for the next few weeks and can I wait?! Umm, no. I got my money back, but really why in the world would you list items when you won't even be home to ship them in a timely manner? It's certainly gone downhill and it's too bad, I really used to enjoy hunting for items.

It has been a very very long time since I have bought anything off of Ebay. Don't plan on going back in the near future either.

I used to buy and sell a lot more...now I have only bought the specialty made items...as of late things are coming pretty quickly.

I tried to sell something on eBay and I could not BELIEVE how difficult it was just to list the dang item! Forget it.

Craigslist and Amazon are 10 times easier to sell on and I am able to get rid of stuff much more quickly. I miss the old eBay, the one where I sold a Beanie Baby for $72 (I bought it for $4.95)...those were the days. Now I don't bother.

I've been on eBay since 1999. And yes, it is going downhill FAST!

It used to be that the basic premise was that you trusted everyone. Feedback was a two-way street and it kept everyone on the up-and-up.

Now, they've changed the feedback in favor of the buyers; the prices are too high for average people to sell their one-of item that they've had in the cupboard for decades; and eBay doesn't go after the bad guys any longer, both the bad sellers and the bad buyers. Any buyer will ALWAYS win in a dispute, even if the seller sold something and mailed it out with proof at a fair price. All the buyer has to do is lie and say they never got it and the money will be yanked out of the seller's account.

The addition of PayPal as the only method of payment stinks, too. EBay gets paid twice due to this.
