Is DVC worth it?

You mentioned not going to Disney every year....you can buy a small amount of points on the resale market and travel whenever it suits. Interestingly enough, another client of mine is a Marriott rep (one of the top salesmen) and he bought 75 points from me originally for the exact reasons you have mentioned.
He has now contacted me to add more.

It is kind of yes and no with us. We joined dvc at it's inception when we still lived in n.j.. Since we moved to florida and are only about 85miles from wdw, we like to go on shorter notice then most folks, and because my wife's job makes it difficult to plan real far in advance. We have posted this info to a number of threads at a number of sights. A lot of the response we get is that we should try to plan ahead.Of course, as I said, my wife's job makes it hard. Our complaint about the club is we think disney is over-selling the club. {too many members, not enough resorts} and we see the ressie window becoming longer and longer. Theres no denying that they are really pushing this club.
There are dvc kiosks in every nook and cranny on wdw property.

Do you think DVC is selling more points than they have units to fill? The original plan was to sell all but a minor reserve of points and to add other resorts. That and the rules of the club will make it harder and harder to get anything short notice or even at less than the 7 month window. The only way they could oversell would be to sell more points than they have the rooms to offer, that happens a a couple of resorts in MX that I'm aware of.

What may happen is that if units go unfilled at some times of the year, there will be more points for part of the year than units and therefore some will lose their points without being able to use them. Or they will be forced to use them at non DVC options.

I think that they underestimated the amount of people that would be using the resorts at wdw as opposed to going elsewhere {concierge service, trade offs ,etc.} We voiced our complaints prior to 2000 regarding not being able to get into okw and were told that once the free park ticket benefit was gone, not as many people would be going to okw and they would be going to other dvc resorts. Well, that never happened. We still had and are still having a difficult time getting into any of the on property dvc locations. I still say that with the agressive way they are selling memberships that things are just going to get worse. And just a passing thought. and although I'll be long gone by then, I wonder what is going to happen after the year 2042 when everyones membership expires. Ibet they never gave much thought to that since they won't be around either.

I guess I don't get the problem. There are times of the year when it is difficult to get in ANYWHERE on property on short notice. The last year has been different because of the post 9/11 fears - but often there is little to no availability unless you can be very flexible with dates, hotel and price. If you look at the other boards right now, there are no rooms at any price for some time periods going out to the end of this year.

Disney is just not a short notice kind of trip with 2 exceptions. The first is an unpopular time of year, such as January, and that can vary. 2nd is if you reserve on VERY short notice, as in a few days out. Because of cancellations, we have been successful getting DVC for extra days when we were already there.
