Is DVC right for us?

There is some risk and compromise included in such an approach but the cost benefit is very high.

If you insist on only counting monetary costs, totally agree. And I'd find it less of an issue if I weren't as tied to the school schedule as I am, or if I didn't insist on a 2 BR. Those are two compromises I can't make, which makes it tougher.

I agree and have said the same on more than one occasion. However, for those with other timeshare options it can still be a good choice even with school limitations as long as you don't have to be on site every time and are OK with any DVC resort.

We're a family of seven and I don't think DVC is a great deal because the units are so cramped.

My DW and kids were impressed with space. We actually imagined living in the villa full time. But then again, OKW is our home resort and not all DVC resort accommodations were created equal.

Other than OKW and to a degree, VB and HH, DVC units are fairly small by timeshare standards though not enough to be a disqualifying factor, IMO.
