Is Dollywood really in the same league as Disney?

Because the ticket prices, etc. would make one think so!! I was looking for a long weekend getaway not too far from home and wow.......$$$$ MS. Dolly is pricey!!!

I just came back from a weekend at Dollywood yesterday. Its not the same as Disney but I'll tell ya it is cleaner and the employees are as friendly as you will find anywhere bar none. We have season passes and go 5-6 times per year and love the place. Gotta try the new timber tower. Its a pretty decent ride.

PS:

The thunderhead wooden coaster won best woodie in the world again this year. We rode it 5 times on Monday with no wait!!

I reported back on this board after I got back from DollyWood that if Disney had a Country Themed park, this would be it! :teeth:

The prices of all theme parks are high, and they vary based on season and demand. I feel like I've been ROOKED when I spend comparable prices for ... ugh... Six Flags....:scared

It's really a nice place and I highly recommend a trip there. In fact, I'm considering doing just that during my son's time off during the summer. I particularly like the weather up in the mountains!
:thumbsup2

As a local, I think Dollywood is a very nice park. It is themed and that is the part I like. I like themeing. However, as someone who has been touched by the magic of Disney, it isn't to be compared to WDW/DL. I think if you just enjoy WDW then you just enjoy Dollywood also and not be the least bit disappointed (comparing to WDW). They are 2 different places and really shouldn't be compared. Of course, in my head I always compare but I keep my mouth shut except for "fastpass". In the summer when it is crowded, Dollywood needs FP.

I think Dollywood is a good value for the $$. It is a lot of family fun with some really nice attractions. I think you just have to be open minded.

My wife and I just went to Dollywood for the first time a few weeks ago. It was our first trip to Pigeon Forge and we almost did not go for that very reason.

I did not want to pay Disney level prices for what would be a B or C level park at best.

However, we loved the food, the atmosphere, the people, and upgraded our tickets to season passes because we figure we will bring the kids back at some point this year.

No, it is nowhere near WDW level, but it is very nice in its own right and I thought was worth it.

I may not think so in the heat of Summer ;)

We enjoy Dollywood and go nearly every year but it doens't compare to Disney for me. But it is a fun park and second only to disney, imho.

I would say there is no comparision between the two. We live fifteen minutes from Dollywood and go once a year(my DH gets one free pass for us both at his work). For us it just isn't worth it or much of a thrill. We don't really care about the fair rides and attractions so thats a big chunk there that we don't do. If you like them then you will be in luck they have several of them, along with booths where you can win stuffed animals. We love Disney, Universal and Busch Gardens and to us Dollywood isn't in there league. But if you go there knowing that, you can have fun and enjoy a day there. The only thing that we really like about Dollywood is the wooden roller coaster which is a blast. And the Festival of Nations which is very nice. They get some very talented performers from all over and that it nice. To me it is overpriced for what you get, but everyone has to decide if there own family will enjoy it enough to make it worth it or not. If you decide to go I hope you enjoy yourself and try a funnelcake they are tasty. :goodvibes
