Is DLH worth it?

We are going to Disneyland in October for the first time!! I can not wait, we are down to 50 days!!!!

We had 5 nights reserved at the HOJO in Anaheim, but have gotten caught up in wanting to stay at the Disneyland Hotel. I want the full experience. The switch in reservations however more than doubled what we were going to be paying at the HOJO.

I'm trying to reassure myself that the switch will be well worth it. This vacation is going to be our last good one for awhile, as we are planning to start trying to add to our family after vacation. Would you pay the $911 for the DLH or the $400 for HOJO?

If this is going to be your last good vacation for a while I would definitely stay at DLH. We stayed there last year and it was awesome. I loved the whole experience, the pool and our view of Downtown Disney. The only reason we aren't staying on property in Sept. is because we are going to WDW next fall and staying on property and need to save.

My vote: go for it!!

I say go for it too. We've stayed at the Ramada on Harbor and at PPH. While we had a good time at both, PPH was fantastic and really took the trip to a whole new level.

If you can swing go for it! Especially if it's going to be the last big trip for awhile. Then make sure to do all the little things at the HOtel!

If this is indeed your last "big hur-rah" for awhile, I would spurlge and stay at DHL. I think the Good Neighbor Hotels are geared for the frequent visitor or the true budget minded who prefer to save $$ on accomodations to spend on trip mementos. DHL is really neat, the rooms are very big and views awesome. And I have to say, after a full day at the parks it is a neat feeling to look at your family and say "let's go back to our room at the hotel" and simply walk thru DTD to the DLH and go past all the other tourists and looky-loos and go to your room. We loved it

I am certainly not trying to burst your bubble here. But is this something you can easily afford? Will the additional money spent on the DLH be taking away from monies already allotted for meals and souvenirs or or other necessities?
If the additional $500.00 isn't in the budget it will not stop you or your family from experiencing the magic of Disney. Howard Johnson's is very close, your feet will be happy with the short walk at the end of the day, especially if you have young ones!
If the additional money is not a hardship & it is your desire then go for it. DLH is a great hotel! Or just do what I did, move here from Mo.!

We stayed at the DLH this past March and we loved it. I'm pretty critical when it comes to hotel decor, and I thought that the rooms were beautifully done. The theming is cool, yet fairly subtle. (Gaze at the wall paper while visiting the "necessary".) Check out the building that Goofy's Kitchen is in (where the various conference rooms are.) Going up the escalator, there are renderings for the original rides; there is a huge collage of Disney toys and DL stuff. Stop by Goofy's Kitchen every day - whether you are eating there or not ... lots of characters to see. Enjoy the Fantasy Water Show (even my jaded 90s born kids thought it was cool.) Take a minute to relax by the waterfall.

When you arrive, take 5 or 10 minutes to stroll the grounds before you check in. (Go past the little gift shop, through the sliding glass doors.) That will help you get an idea of what tower you want to ask for. It is hard to get a bad view at the DLH ... just a matter of personal preference. I think the Sierra Tower has the biggest rooms because those have a day bed also. (Be careful if you request a King room in Sierra ... I've heard that some of those are tiny.)

At the DLH, you will feel totally immersed in Disney Magic 24/7.

I've heard very good things about the HoJo (the folks who hang out at Laughingplace.com rave about it.) But the HoJo is outside the gates ... outside the gates in Anaheim looks like lots of cities ... not totally beautiful. At DLH you will be in a cocoon ... your walk to the parks will be through Downtown Disney which has lovely landscaping, upbeat music, etc.

Did you get a quote for Paradise Pier? You may find the price to be less than DLH and more than Hojos, but it could save you a few bucks and you could still stay on property. We have found PP to be great when we want to be on property but dont want to spend the $$$ for DLH or GC.
Hojo's is across the street and I am sure it is a great value for the money. I have not stayed there in years but I know they have done a lot of remodeling and it is certainly a decent place to stay.

Thanks to all of you. It helps me to be reassured to spend the extra money. I want to have the full experience when we go. We always stay onsite when we go to WDW, you just can't beat it.

The extra money is not a problem, only due to the fact that the money we have to spend for this vacation was not money we had to save. The company I work for gives us stock options rarely so we are using the net gain off of it to pay for this vacation. That's the main reason I can spend such a difference in hotel prices!

Then you have certainly picked the right hotel! DLH is the best of the 3! IMO. It almost makes me wish I didn't live here!
