is Disney's trip insurance worth it?

What does it include? Will it cover me if weather prevents us from getting to Disney in January ?

We signed up for it. I am kinda embarressed to admit it but, I don't really know all of what it covers. I just figured that for an extra $225 for our 3 adult, 2 children, $7,000+ trip, that an extra couple hundred wouldn't hurt us too much...

You really should read the terms before spending so much money!

OP - read the terms carefully. You don't need to purchase travel insurance through Disney. This website lets you compare different options:

I have never purchased trip insurance for a regular WDW trip. If I cancel my Disney hotel at the last minute, I might get a $50 change fee. I can reuse the tickets on another trip. I always fly Southwest and they'll let me cancel my flight for free. I can rebook it later with no penalties. So that may weigh a lot into your decision. Insurance is not worth it to me. I don't know what I would use it for.

Now, if it were a cruise...that's another story. I would get trip insurance for that. Not through Disney though. Other companies are cheaper with better coverage.

ok so if the unthinkable happens last minute disney will allow me to rebook for only $50? I willl of course contact them to get the details but if that is indeed the case then I probably wouldnt need the insurance. I intend on flying southwest if their rates come down. Thanks.

We purchased it - I thought it was a great policy. I checked insuremytrip and the company that offers Disney insurance does not offer the same coverage for their own policy. Disney's is much better. Also, you only pay for the adults in your party - kids are included at no charge.

It covers
death in a family preventing travel
weather related delays or cancellation at home or at the destination - will pay $200 per day for food/hotel
jury duty preventing travel
illness of a business partner preventing travel (if you have a partnership of 2 and you need to stay home to keep the business going)
it does away with the pre-existing condition clause (which was huge for us) - you don't have to buy it within 10 days to get the pre-existing coverage - just before your 45 days final payment is due

and so much more

I think it covers not being able to go due to illness - I don't remember.

With our travel happening during hurricane season and dh and I both having medical issues it really made me comfortable with our trip - I can sleep nights now because I'm not so nervous about the what if's - that is priceless!

I let DH do that paperwork- lol.
Anyway, i got curious and read over the packet. It covers more than i care to type :) plus, our paperwork only covers PA residents.

our policy is from travel guard

We got our trip insurance through USAA. It was $90 for me and DH. DS(13) is also covered for free. It covers almost everything including cancellations, weather, airline delays, lost luggage and more. Well worth it in my opinion.
