Is Disneyland trying to turn their shows into dinner theater type shows?

Popcorn and soda for $30. This feels like a quick cash grab. I suppose if you really wanted to see it and didn't get admission during the virtual queue release then this might be a decent option.

I'm sure that's what they're going for. In the early days those slots will be in high demand. So of course Disney has to capitalize on that.

I think of it like combo meals at fast food restaurants or movie theaters. People may purchase popcorn or a drink prior to a show. Why not entice them to buy both?

I also think that by turning the shows into dinner theater type shows Disneyland is hoping that this will make them huge money and get more people into DCA and Disneyland. Because people have always been fans of dinner theater and dinner theater shows are very popular. I bet once Rogers The Musical opens on Friday Disneyland will make a ton of money from the people buying the dinner packages. Because when a new show opens up at Disneyland it usually means big money for dinner packages and with Rogers The Musical opening Friday this will be the ticket for Disneyland to make money off the dinner packages

The dinner packages are not dinner theater for the most part. It is dinner in a restaurant that gives you a ticket to a reserved area to see the show/parade later that day. We have done the Plaza dining package for the MSEP parade viewing. The dinner was actually more like lunch from around 2-3 PM, and then a lanyard that was our ticket into the reserved viewing area later that evening to watch the parade.

I have not really read up on the ones for Rogers the Musical, but from the sounds of it, it is more snacks (popcorn and a drink that includes viewing of the show). One does not need to do this to see the show and most would not buy tickets to the park just to get a dining package to view a show --- they will already be there to enjoy the day and want to make seeing the show easier.

This is fantastic news! I love that Disney goes for the "extra money grab" by offering a meal package to get preferred seats! I loved doing it when Frozen played; I needed a lunch (and since I don't go with children I usually go for nice sit down places) and I wanted good seats with the least waiting. Open the wallet and get a nice table service lunch AND good seats, sign me up!

I was really hoping I would be able to do that again with this new show!

Except that's not what is being offered. It's just popcorn, a soda, a lanyard, and early access to select your seat in the theatre. There is no meal like they have had with other shows in the past. Probably more similar to the the pre-show experience package they did for Frozen the first summer it was running that included the Frozen area with snacks, drinks, a lanyard, a pin, and early access to select seats in the theatre.
