Is Disney+ wanting to become like Pay-Per-View?

Ever since Mulan debuted as their first Premier Access movie I think Disney+ is trying to copy Pay-Per-View by giving people Premier Access for a fee and I cannot figure it out. Is it because Disney+ hopes to attract more subscribers by giving them Premier Access movies as a bonus for joining or is it a way that Disney+ is trying out as an experiment? Because once Mulan followed they made Raya And The Last Dragon a Premier Access movie at first then they did it with Cruella but I cannot figure out why Onward and Soul became free and now with Luca coming soon Luca will also be for free and to me it seems like a smart move but Disney+ should've made Cruella for free. Another thing I don't get is why do the Premier Access movies cost $29,00 to watch and they should give Disney+ subscribers a special deal rather than having to pay the high prices. If Disney+ thinks that this is trying to make them compete with Pay-Per-View they can think again

The reason for this has only to do with the effect of the pandemic on movie theaters. Those movies were all intended to be shown in theaters and to make a lot of money there. With theaters closed for a while they had to try something to get the movies out. Some were held for when theaters reopened, some were given the "Premiere Access" window and some were sent straight to Disney+ with no additional fee - I don't know why both Pixar movies were given that route, but that is to entice subscribers. The Premiere Access films cost what they do to make up for lost bos-office revenue. The price can be debated, but $30 is actually much chaeper than a night out at the movies for a family. I don't think it should be tied to Disney+ on top of that, but it is what it is. If the theater business comes back, we won't see as much of this at all.

Movie theaters are just reopening now. I saw Cruella in a theater this weekend. If you wait the premier movie will become free in a couple of months. Raya is free on Disney +. 29 bucks is cheaper to watch at home than going to the theater but I think for those big Marvel MCU movies people will want the big screen other people there movie theater experience.

Yeah, we're definitely going to see teh movie theater business change. I think a lot os smaller movies will opt for streaming, even if it's premium, but I do think the big ones like MArvel and Star Wars, etc. will still see good attendance at theaters as people will want the big screen. I think we will see fewer multiplexes and more dedicated, high-end theaters with Imax, Atmos, all that stuff.

I don't understand why everyone is so upset with Premier Access. You can either pay for the movie or you can wait. Disney never remotely even suggested the idea that Disney+ would include theatrical releases on opening day. I paid $140 during the D23 promotional period for 3 years. That is one heck of a deal. Netflix over 3 years is $648 for the 4K plan or $504 for the standard HD.

What I also think why Disney+ is trying to compete with Pay-Per-View is so that Disney also can sell a lot of merchandise based on the movies. Like when Onward was released first in theaters there was a lot of Onward merchandise in stores but as soon as Onward came to Disney+ Onward merchandise became scarce. The same thing happened with Soul when it was released to Disney+ and even before it came out there was few merchandise of Soul. And now that Marvel's Black Widow movie is gonna be released also with Premier Access I think Disney+ will make a whole lot of money from people buying Premier Access to watch it. Just hope Encanto is for free when it debuts in November

I think Disney+ will continue to look to make money selling Premier Access to new content. I am a single parent of one child so the price of Premier Access is actually a little more expensive than movie tickets for two. If you have a larger family or you watch with friends then Premier Access is pretty good deal. Personally, I find that waiting is no big deal. Right now the Disney+ subscription is like a utility bill. I think that once the corporation gets involved with live events like sports they will earn a lot more money. In Canada if they offered a sports package that included hockey I suspect they would make a lot of money. Most people that I know keep their TV packages only because of sports.

What I think Disney+ should do to lower the price of the Premier Access movies is to give subscribers special deals to see the new movies at a special price of $3,99 and believe me this will work wonders for them. I also think what Disney+ is also trying to focus on is promoting their original shows like Loki Star Wars The Bad Batch and The Mandalorian and adding Luca and other movies for free might be their next step but they should lower the prices of the Premier Access movies if people want to see them

Disney isnt even the first streaming provider to do this. Cable providers were doing early access for films that were hitting theaters day one years ago, and Amazon Prime Video also gives access to movies that hit theaters for a rental fee. If it works theyre gonna continue to do it.
