Is Disney ever too crowded to have fun?

My big question is how much do you think the Fairy Tale Package is going to change the October crowds???

I thought I had enough to worry about with Columbus Day, the FTP, Canadian Thanksgiving, etc. When is Teacher's Convention in Oct? Do Florida schools let the kid's out for Columbus Day? I guess there is always something going on, so maybe this won't effect crowds too much...

We would always go during the summer months when we went on family trips and it was miserable. I'm from Texas so I'm used to heat but the humidity and crowds gets pretty uncomfortable. We've gone (my DH and I) during the last week of August (anniversary) and it was dead. I though Splash Mountain was closed because we walked all the way up to the loading and surprised the CM's, they were all leaning on the rails just waiting. I was really surprised but they said everyone has gone back to school and waiting for Labor Day. We've gone in the beginning of December and that was great. Cool weather and low crowds. May was more crowded but not as hot. This time we're going the 2nd week of Feb '04 and are hoping for low crowds since it's before Pres. weekend.

I guess I am in the minority here. We have been going over Christmas for the past 5 years. We are DVC members and go once a year. With the use of FP and making PS's we have a great time. Sure it is busy, but the energy is GREAT. We have learned what to skip, like MK on Christmas and NYE. The trick is to start early or late and just go with the flow. We went one year in late August and the heat was more of a factor than, the crowds in December.

I have a query...

I'm a seasoned vetran of the World, and we've always gone in October, and I mean every time we've ever gone, with the exception of once when we decided to go in June - basically, October offers the great weather and smaller crowds that make the holiday that bit better.

The question I have is this - is the beginning/middle of the month, i.e. 9th - 19th a particularly busy or quiet time to visit?

If you feel that there is a huge crush head to Epcot. It is rarely crowded. I have been to the parks when it was impossible to walk around the Magic Kingdom and it is very frustrating. While there I always relied on Pirates of the Carribiean for a no wait ride or sometimes the Carousel of Progress. Get a fast pass and go to a ride that is not busy to kill the in between time.

Teacher's Convention may be specific to Vermont. It happens once a year, all our teachers get together and have a 2 day conference with each other. Sort of a statewide inservice. I don't think they do that anywhere else.

and I would think it would be a bit more crowded than you are used to because of Columbus Day and the FTP. We are going 10/10-10/20, and I am hoping the crowds are manageable.
