Hi all,
We will be at Disney in 13 days and I am really excited. I was wondering about the Dinosaur ride. My 6 yr. old is really into Dinosaurs and in several of my guides - it mentions this ride is more appropriate for a 7 yr. old due to the scare factor. I would love to know your thoughts. He is very mature and realizes this is all fantasy and special effects. Is this ride like a roller coaster with big drops? What makes it scary? He is really looking forward to this ride.
Thanks in advance!

Yes it can be scary for a 6 year old. Even though it is a ride, it appears to be very real. They did a good job with this one.

Your son might do fine. My DDs were scared when they first rode it.

I think your best bet is to ride it first and then decide.

I'm 27; it scares me to death but I'm a big baby. I have yet to see any of it because I hold on tight and close my eyes. It's VERY loud and bumpy and realistic.

Kids are so different - I think that's your best bet =)

Not so much roller coaster scary, but bumping bouncing out of control jeep ride, and sometimes rather dark scary. I did not really enjoy the ride - too much bumping and bouncing for me......

My son went on this when he was 5 or 6 can't remember and he loved it aslong as they know it is not real I think he should be fine! Really the only scarey part is at the end. It is very well done abit bumpy no hills atleast not any to talk about it it is a great ride my kids love it!

When we were there last May my DD was 5 (she just turned 6 a couple of weeks ago).

The first time we rode it she screamed during the ride. When it was over she said it was scary but she wanted to do it again.

So, we went again.

She wants to ride it next time we go.

Just some info to assist in making your decision.

Have a fantastic time!!!!!

Thanks for all your feedback. Do you think he could get sick on this ride? Should I give him some gravol and have some "sick" bags ready? He has been on more baby rides so I am not really should what he can or cannot handle.

I think it really depends on the kid. A (spoiler!) giant dinosaur screeching at you as you zip by could be scary, or fun.

Doubt I helped, here.

Good luck & have a great trip!
:goodvibes

I wouldn't worry about motion-sickness but hearing-loss might be a real possibility. This ride is extremely LOUD. I love a good head-banging rock concert now and then but even I have to wear earplugs when I go on Dinosaur. The ridiculous noise level absolutely terrifies my 6 year old but he will ride it with ear protection.

This ride scared the bejeebers out of me. It is loud, dark, jerky and it made me car sick. I don't know if it would make your son sick(no one else in our party was sick, just me  ) When that dino leans in a roars right at you :faint:

maybe it's just me :hippie:

Every child is different. For our trip in December, we were travelling at the same time as friends. We both had a 5 year old and a 3 1/2 year old. My kids LOVED it, the 3 year old threw a fit when it was time to get off and sat on the steps going out fussing b/c he wanted to ride again! We had 2 AK days and we rode it probably 4 or 5 times total. Our friends said they hope Child and Family Services never sees the photo of their family on the ride because their kids were absolutely terrified of it.

DS6 (5 last trip) adores dinosoaurs, not a huge fan of scary rides. I went on first alone, and told him what would happen. He sat in the middle holding dh and my hands. He knew about the fright but still we all three screamed!

When we came off he said it was the 'bestest ride in the whole world ever' so we went again!

He always talks about this ride first and can't wait to go on again (in 26 days!)

We have seen younger kids leave the ride in tears because they were frightened and have seen others leave really excited to ride it again. Most of it probably depends on the child and what type of day they are having.

there's only one way to find out - ride it. the queue and pre-show are pretty neutral, nothing scary. the attraction itself is awesome.

I think the key is if your 6yo understands the dinos aren't real, they're robots, and doesn't mind dark rides. As others have posted it is dark, loud, incredibly bumpy, and the carnotaur tries to eat you:(

I'm 37 and it scares me!! I cover my eyes every time! I know it's not real, but, I can't help it!

My son, 6 years old, loves this ride...

I did ride it before he did (could, when he was 3) and I do hold on to him and explain what to expect...
