Hey ya,

having never been to florida, can anyone tell me how cold it would be in florida during the late december period and if it would be appropriate to visit blizzard beach? And if the weather is not too bad, and I had only 1 day, would visiting wet and wild be better? I noticed that wet and wild had more rides..

tks!

December weather can be very fickle in FL. It can be easily in the 80's or even in the 50's, just depends if any cold fronts make their way through. We've had 4-5 day trips in early or even mid-December where it was just that in the matter of the short time we were there.

That being said it is also "relative". As a Florida transplant, I would never swim when it's below 70 but if you're coming from 30 degree weather, 70 would be a heatwave. (below 70 to us is "chilly"... :rotfl: )

Another thing to keep in mind is that they usually have 1 water park opened at a time during the winter months. They are usually refurbishing the other that is closed. I guess since this is not "high" water park season it pays for them to do their refurbishments when they can close the parks for weeks at a time.

It just depends. I have been to FL in Jan with temps in the 80 and other times I have been there in Mar and it was highs in the 50's. I know that we are planning a trip to BB in DEC and we will adjust fire once on the ground.

We have been swimming in January, and another time it was too cold in November. A lot depends on what you are used to.

If your from Canada or anywhere else it's cold in December trust me, it will be fine. We are from the east coast of Canada, so 18-23 degree celcius was fine for us in December. We went to Typhoon Lagoon Dec 5th or 6th last year, there were heavy clouds and it was a little cool so we had the park all to ourselves. It was amazing, I was swimming with the sharks, for 10-15 minutes, did the tube slides 6 times( as fast as we could gt down and back up again), and anything else we wanted.

I wrote my Christmas cards at TL one year and I don't like cold water but it was fine. Of course the week started with us wearing coats and pants and ended in shorts and at the water park. You really have to play it by ear with the weather and be flexible with your days. in case you planned Tues. but Tues is 50 degrees and Friday is 80 you have to go Friday.

I could have sworn both water parks are closed in December...I might be wrong though. If one of them is open it would be cool because most people wouldn't think of going so it may not be crowded

They overlap each other. When one is closed the other is open.

For our trip in January we will be able to visit both due to their schedules. The refurb schedule swithces parks mid way thru our stay. The last couple of trips Dec/Jan one was closed when we were there while the other was open.

On Dec 30 - Jan 2nd it was 80 degrees, the week prior and after was in the 70's & Breezy. My kids swan in the resort pool everynight of our stay and the days leading up to WDW we were on the Gulf coast and went to the beach.

Usually only one park is open. We have gone to WDW the third week in December 2003, last week Dec in 2004 and first week in January 2006 and it was too cold for swimming most days. This last trip it was good weather the last three days-- low 80s

I would take the swim stuff and only buy passes if it a warm forecast

It can get pretty cold. Don't know where you're from but living in SoFlo, anything below 70 and the kids won't bother with swimming.

What we do is buy the kids those child-size neoprene diving suits if we take them to WDW in December. On a borderline day they can go for 3-4 hours with weather in the low 70's. You can get them at Walmart, maybe Target and possibly Sports Authority (but you will pay more.)

It was not cold, but we felt that it was a little chilly for a water park when we went last December.

gosh the rate that you guys reply to threads is just down right scary! its so fast! haha, anyway i should have mentioned where i come from, SINGAPORE! Its summer all year round! We only have 2 seasons here, "hot and humid" and "humid and rainy". Its close to 35 degC in noon everyday.... so florida is chilly! haha, thats y i am a lil concern. but 80 degF sounds fine. thanks again for all the response.

But has anyone been to wet and wild? does it beat the disney water parks?

Nothing beats the WDW water parks. :)

For me, December is almost always too cold for water parks, but I'm very cold natured. It's got to be above 80 for me to want to swim in a pool, and with water parks (so much time wet out of the water, walking around from slide to slide), it's got to be nearly 90.

heehee, maybe i will train up by dipping myself in tubs of ice everyday till december

I would probably go with Blizzard Beach over Wet & Wild- BB was number 2 on the Travel Channel's list of Best Water Parks, so you know it has to be pretty good! :)

Blizzard Beach is closed in December. Typhoon Lagoon is the only Disney water park open in December this year.

Edited to add: Blizzard Beach is actually closed for refurbishment from October 31st until December 31st, 2006. Not just December.

My family went to BB on 12/30/04. It was chilly. High was about 70. I didn't swim but my family did!

We are returning this year in December and TL is open so we're hoping it's warm enough to get a day in there since we have never been to that park before!
