I myself LOVE the ride, except for I find it so loud that it becomes nearly painful to experience.

My wife refuses to ride it after riding it once due to how violent the bumping around is and due to the extreme volume.

Another note: Anyone with Crohn's Disease or Collitis should NOT NOT NOT ride this ride due to the level of sharp movement.

Hi there,

Both my Daughter grew up at the Disney parks. From Day One we always were big on one question we asked of them. "Is what we are about to see pretend or real?" This worked well for my wife and I but each child is different.
Also asking on this ride which side the big Dino is on and sitting on the opposite side is a great way of being proactive.

Is it less scary if you sit in the middle? I don't like sitting on the end of dark rides, it freaks me out!

did we do it, yes. DS was 5 at the time. i talked to him about how it was all pretend (for some that takes away the magic, but i knew it would help him handle the situation better and still have fun.) and that we would never take him someplace where we would let him get hurt. he was up for it. he loved it (especially since we bought him a dino in the gift shop after the ride, because he was so brave. Honestly, i was the chicken with her eyes closed cowering away from the dino in the pic. He was laughing his butt off and looking right at it.)

i hope if you do decide it is the right thing for your litte one that she has fun.

All of these descriptions are accurate - loud, bumpy and not "friendly" dinos! My 12 yo still doesn't like this ride she went on PW while we rode and we met at the gift shop between the two! Unless she is particularly brave, I'd skip it and take her to see the dinos at UofE in Epcot. From an adult viewpoint - it's awesome!

I'm 40 and it scared me really bad! The photo was very funny because I was in full scream and I never scream. Definetly not for the faint of heart. Proceed with caution with a 4-year-old.

Absolutely not for a 4 year old! VERY VERY INTENSE.
If it were a movie....it would be rated R!

I don't think a 4 year old can handle this one.

My DD was 9 last year when she rode it and had her eyes closed the whole time because she said it was too scary.

I do love this ride though.

Its too scary for me and I am 27. Haha. We go on it and have a blast but it scares the heck out of me each time! Too intense for a 4 year old.

We last went on the ride in 2001 - DD was then 7. She (and I ) were pretty scared - and we had even "watched" it on that looping movie you see on one of the local channels. She loves coasters, but dark rides are not her idea of a good time (except for RNRC). When we went back to WDW last year (first time since 2001), she refused to do it. Side note, we went to DL in 2003 and rode Indiana Jones. DD insists that the 2 rides were virtually identical except for "actual characters" and vows to avoid both for as long as possible.

I rode this ride ONCE and never again!! I wanted to see if it was okay for my DD9 to ride and my DH and I rode it without her. Boy was I scared!!! I rode most of the ride with my head buried in DH. The picture at the end was the only amusing part- I was screaming with my eyes closed leaning on DH. The poor kid behind me was screaming louder than I was and I felt so bad for him because I knew how I felt. NEVER AGAIN. Nothing fun about this ride!!!!!!!!!!!! I wouldnt take a young child on this at all.

I haven't read all the posts in this thread so this may have been already posted, but in case it hasn't...talk to your doctor. This is a very jerky ride and I don't know if shaken baby syndrome can affect a four year old or not. After the four year old child that died on Mission to Mars this year I would be concerned. The height requirement may not meet the standards for age and brain size and developement.

Look, you could be a professional wrestler and still get scared on this ride. Those darn robot dinosaurs look like real wild animals that are on the loose and coming after you - and they even catch up with you. That’s why I personally LOVE IT!

Take a 4 yr old? That’s an individual choice, but she should have a hearty constitution. If all she ever watches is princess movies (like my DD-3) and used to a very calm environment than HECK NO! If she’s used to loud scary movies than maybe. I wouldn't!

Disney made these dinosaurs to look real and they do. You can’t tell your kid they're fake and expect them to feel better. That’s like telling them there’s no monster in the closet; they're still scared (except this monster is in their face).

It's not really an age thing...it's what is appropriate for your child. We just took our DS5 and he loved it, but then again...he LOVES dinosaurs and had really been looking forward to it. The Dinosaurs and experience are very real and could easily scar a child for life.

I rode Dinosaur for the first time this past May. We took our DS (12, 10, 8) on it with us. DS (12,8) were really!!! scared. We aren't even allowed to use the "D" (dinosaur) word anymore. I listened to them complain about how I had tormented them all day. Personally I thought the ride was great. I was scared and like most of you my eyes were shut through alot of it. I hope to ride it again someday so that I can experience more. I won't however bring the boys with me unless they beg me to go on it (DS 10 will). Leave the ride for later with your daughter, there's plenty of time for her to experience it.

I personally love the scare factor of this ride but then again, I'm 30!!

MY DSis on the other hand, who is 24, WILL NOT ride this ride again!! She rode it the first year she went with us and was scared to death !

We've asked her every time since if she was going to ride this year and the answer is always the same, a resounding NO!! Disney did a terrific job of making these creatures look real and it is easy to get caught up in the story of this ride. The thing is, they aren't "friendly" dinosaurs just out there grazing (well a few in the beginning are) but the ones chasing you and swooping down on you, they really outdid themselves on this ride.

Way too scary for most 4 year olds, but I wouldn't worry about shaken baby syndrome. It takes a whole lot more shaking (and a whole lot smaller 'baby') for such a thing to occur.

The dinosaur area was nirvana for DS5 who lives and breathes dinosaurs. He was grinning ear to ear on the Triceratops Spin, but was too short for Primeval Whirl. Then we rode Dinosaur and everything changed.

He’s watched the movie countless times and was expecting something similar. Not Barney or The Land Before Time, but definitely not the Dinosaur equivalent of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre! Let me add that we liked the ride and wild rides in general, but DS was overwhelmed. This is so much more immersive than any nature show you’ve seen where crocs are ripping apart zebras or the like. Half of the ride is in utter darkness with your vehicle lurching along with deafening sound effects all around. Occasionally the lights reveal some gigantic beast about to rip your head off before you plunge back into the inky void. This tension builds until your time rover feels like it’s basically falling off a cliff before you’re back in the unloading area. Grown men are weeping, oldsters are clutching their chests, fumbling for the Nitroglycerin in their pockets. Children are huddled in the fetal position as their wild-eyed parents try to comfort them and haul them out of the vehicle. DW was battered about the head and legs by the woman next to her during the ride. Said woman was shrieking and slapping and clutching the whole trip. I was trying to shelter my boy from the multi-media assault on his senses with limited success. Back in the light of the unloading area he was OK, but shaken. He said “I made it!,” with frantic energy, as if he’d survived the sinking of the Titanic. In the exit corridor we asked if he wanted to ride again. His reply? “No daddy! It’s too dangerous!”
