AAAAAGGGHHH!! Cant decide- is it worth it to stay conc lagoon view poly for $6100- family of 7, 2 rms, park hoppers) when you get the free meal plan??? Will we be in the room enough to justify when we are arriving late one night (about 9:00) and leaving Sunday morning???? Someone who has experienced the conceige level (always wanted to but never have) please let me know....the choices are a room with a view at the poly, grand flor, or the cont.......
Thank you much in advance!!! :confused3

We have stayed concierge five times but I think it is a waste of money to pay for concierge if you get the dining plan, free or otherwise. There would be far too much food available, there isn't any possible way you could eat that much. And if you don't plan to eat the food available to you, then why pay for for it? If you want a lagoon view, you can book that room without concierge. The concierge lounge is a nice area to spread out, but if you have two rooms, you will have plenty of extra room. The other perk, having the concierge services, is simply not worth the additional several hundred dollars a night! I am a strong advocate for concierge without the dining plan, or the dining plan without concierge, but both is just too much...too much money, too much food.

I've never stayed in conceirge but if you have the free meal plan then I probably wouldn't waste the extra money. It's really probably the best reason people book it is for the snacks and drinks but you are getting that with the meal plan. Save your money and you have a good start for another trip fund....

Good question smahoney6! The DW and I have stayed concierge at the poly with lagoon view a couple times now. Concierge can never really replace the need for "real" food. So don't worry about overlap with your Disney Dining package. You'll need it. The appetizers and snacks served in concierge are not really a substitute for an actual meal. There are some people who will try to do that and strip the lounge bare like locusts, but that doesn't work out.

There is more to concierge than just food. Don't forget ability of the concerge to get you into the restaurants or shows that perhaps you might not be able to do staying non-concierge. This is especially helpful for last minute reservations. Plan as much as possible in advance, months before you arrive you should have your "must do" ressies made. Cinderella's Royal Table comes to mind.

Since you will be spending a lot of time at the resort hotel, you can make use of the lounge to relax in and cool off, have a drink, grab a snack. And speaking of food, if you like sushi, as DW and I do, then this is THE place to be. There are wine and cheeses, some evening they serve sushi (YUMM) and a variety of other appetizers. Bottled water is available... from large glass bottles you can't take to the parks. Then at night you've got desserts and liquors such as Bailys or port and grand marnier. (sp) If you add up what it would cost to have a few glasses of wine per person, order the deserts or appetizers and such it really works out well.

After a day at the parks, being pushed and stepped on, its so nice to retreat to the civilized environment of the private lounge. If there are children misbehaving, simply "accidently" step on their little feet. No just kidding. Thats bad. Don't do that. Have a glass of wine and a nice bit of fruit or appetizer while you relax and before you head off to your dinner ressie.

The lounge is particularly helpful during the times of year when the parks close early. It breaks up the day nicely. Be sure and say hello to Chef Dick. He's a great guy. Be sure to try his sushi. Top notch! I had a heart attack on the plane the last time we stayed at the poly. Concierge provided me with a wheel chair and Chef Dick was very accomdating for my low salt diet needs. The people at the concierge desk are warm, friendly, very competent and able to perform miracles. They certainly saved our vacation.

Is it worth it to go concierge? My DIS friend, if you have the means to pay for it, and can afford it, the price is definitly worth it.

PS I forgot to mention the continental breakfast which is helpful to get a quick getaway to the parks in the AM.

Remember, the dining plan does NOT cover alcohol of any kind. The cheapest glass of wine at WDW is going to run about $7 to $8 a glass. (not talking about the samples from the Food and Wine festival in the fall). What is a glass of Bailys going to run? Anyway, it all adds up. A couple glasses of wine, a cordial or two and between me and the DW thats worth about $60 a day. Its hard to put a price on use of the lounge, or the convenience of having snacks near or how great it was just to get early morning coffee while still in our room- you obviously make a quick run to the lounge and back. You could use room service instead and not stay concierge. But that costs money too.

I'm not sure about concierge being $200 a night extra per room. If the price has gone that high, room service would be a bargain. Do you know what your rooms would cost without concierge?

I would say no. I've stayed at concierge levels and they are great. However, the DIS is such a great "adviser" and with the dining plan, it may not be a "must do."

I would invest $75 for the Disney Dining Experience for the liquor if you feel you would spend over $200 on liquor. Than you are all set.

do they keep the conceige lounge well-stocked or will we have to fight for food/drink??? (I hate to fight rude people- would rather pay for it somewhere else...)
thanks in advance for all of these comments!!

No it isn't worth it.

We have stayed in it 3 times in WDW. If you have very small children & are at the hotel a lot yes. Now our kids are 9 & 11 & 19 . We spend most of our time in the park. But when they were under 6 it is so nice to have. They could not hang all day & night in the park so we spent a good bit of time hanging in the COncierge lounge watching TV & enjoying the offerings.

I never saw fighting, hoarding, or empty platters, there were always plenty of drinks. Sometimes, there would be a line around 5:00 to pick up appetizers. There are always people there to help replenish if needed. At times, near closing, there would be some desserts gone. Whatever you decide, have fun! :)

I think Saphire said it perfectly. We have stayed concierge at AKL and WL and loved it. However, I would not pay for concierge with free dining. The best things about concierge, IMO, the ability to have a place, beyond your room, to go to while others in the room are getting ready, plus the food and drink offerings, are simply not worth it if you're on the free dining plan and already have two rooms.

Save the money for another trip!

Ah, the perennial is concierge worth it question. I'd say in general, if you are looking for "value" for your dollar and are worried about if something is going to be "worth it" then concierge isn't for you. IMHO. I enjoyed it immesnsely to have a nice lounge to get snacks in and enjoy. We never used it as our place to get our meals. We also loved the care taken in the rooms. I wasn't very unimpressed with the planning staff with the Poly con. so that can be a plus for some having them help them out with varous things...IF they help. So IF things go as they are supposed to, it's a nice atmosphere and feeling to be in that part fo a resort. But if you are concerned about it being "worth it" and getting the best value for your money, especially with the free dining...then I'd say no. But I'd still do it if I could afford it! We LOVE LOVE LOVED the GF main building concierge!!!

Another vote no with free dining. We did it at Beach Club in Dec. 2002 and with cast member discount it was $75/night. Full price was $150. We found ourselves scheduling our day around the times when the room was open. Yes, it was convienient to have the small boxes of cereal, and milk in the morning. We also carried diet coke cans into the parks. And the desserts and cordials at night were great. :goodvibes (though I'm not much of a drinker-even at the world) And contrary to OP, we did see empty platters. It was Friday evening, the resort was more crowded, and they ran out of the shrimp (appetizer) :sad2: with at least an hour left til the room closed. They did not replenish the tray. That was the only hot appetizer they had that night. I wouldn't pay $75/night again for concierge (especially since I do better booking my ADR then they did-they missed the most important one!) And with the free dining, I definitely don't think it's worth it. Just MHO.
