My bf and I were talking about this yesterday. He says that his mom has visited the "real" Cinderella's Castle in France, and the builder of the "real" one was mentally insane. Is this based off of one real castle, or just designed off of older French castles? I've looked on Yahoo! but can't find anything. Thanks!

Cinderella castle was designed after Neuschwanstein castle in Germany (but they changed it a lot of course). I'm not sure if there were other castles used as inspiration or not. :)

ERK! Duh! GERMANY, not FRANCE! Sigh. I'm tired. Thank you!! :)

Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland was modeled after Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria.

Cinderella Castle at WDW was inspired by the style of several French castles, but not modeled after any specific one.

We visited Neuschwanstein Castle but I never knew which Disney Castle was modeled after it. It is a beautiful castle. I have a wood carving of it. :D

Here's a link to Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria...I see bits of it in both castles...the turrets and towers and all...

tried to post the photo but it wouldn't go...

Disneyland's castle is actually inspired by the Alhambra in Spain. It is much more fortress like. If you look at Neuschwanstein it is much taller with higher turrets and towers, like the one at WDW.

I thought so, too, but the Disney site Dan linked to above disagrees! And it's on an official site!! I just see Neuschwanstein in Cinderella castle a lot more than in Sleeping Beauty castle....
