Is Chef Mickey's Lunch a character meal?

Over a month ago I was searching the online Disney Reservations and requested a search for Character Dining during September, around 1 PM, and it showed that there was a 1:30 PM availability.

Now remember I used the search "CHARACTER DINING" as my preference.

The little pop up screen showed that there was indeed a Breakfast and a Dinner with characters at Chef Mickey's but had no mention about Lunch.

Yet there was the availability of LUNCH as well in the Disney Results Availability.

I didn't realize until today that this was a NON CHARACTER LUNCH event, and it was only for the expanded Dining Crowds being offered. The confirmation does state NO CHARACTERS, but the Reservation Availability Menus doesn't show this or explain the lunch times shown in the availability results. I wish I had read my CONFIRMATION description more accurately.

So be aware if you got a Chef Mickey's Lunch Reservation in September, it does not have characters. I did speak with the Dining Reservation Representative today to confirm this. I also asked what the price was, and it seems to be the same if they had characters, around 28 dollars a person.

Now I am not sure if it is worth keeping this reservation for the buffet without characters?

If you have heard differently, please let me know.

I became aware today when my niece asked me "Did Chef Mickey'si start doing lunch?". Yes when needed, but not with characters at lunch time in September.

The only reason they are offering lunch is because it is free dining. So many people who will go there for lunch during free dining aren't going to be paying anyway.

Unfortunately, chances are that all the CM did for you was look on the website (or rather, their version of it, which shares the same back-end and would thus show the same thing we see.) It's just not loaded properly.

Of course, there's always a chance for them to change things, but I very seriously doubt there won't be characters.

I normally do not book double reservations, but for this day I will until I am onsite and confirm that your correct.

Thanks for the heads up! I made a lunch reservation then cancelled it when it showed "no characters." I may just go back and add it again.

Any idea what the lunch hours are? TIA!

TBH, that's perfectly fine in my eyes (like I have any say! ) I don't begrudge anyone in making a backup plan because the original Disney information is horrible (in fact, I'd encourage it). Now those making 10 backup plans... well, that's different .

As far as the August/September thing, again it could just be how it's loaded in the system. I would highly doubt that they'd do something like open Chef Mickey's without the primary attraction. That'd be like going to CRT and having no characters... and not in the castle. But then again, I've seen dumber stuff done by them (albeit, mostly website related )

Has anyone ever had lunch at Chef Mickey's? I understand that there are no characters so I was wondering if it was still worth it to go without the characters. Is the menu and price similar to the dinner menu and price? What about other suggestions for a fun birthday lunch at a resort restaurant? Thanks!

Without characters, NO, I don't think that it is worth it. Much better choices and CM is pretty pricey for what you get.

Thanks for the info! I was a little confused if there would be characters at Chef Mickey's for lunch or not. I thought that there would be when I booked the ressie online, but when my confirmation popped up it said that characters wouldn't be available for lunch. I considered canceling, but decided to do a little research. I went through some old posts, and it sounded like they add character lunches during free dining. I decided to call and the CM I talked to said there would be characters there! It looks like I will be having lunch with Mickey for my birthday after all!

I've had two threads deleted in 24 hours regarding my experience/complaint with chef Mickey! No explanation. I have no idea why they were deleted so before I get banned for speaking my mind, buyer beware! You can do much better than the food, service and ridiculous prices here! I guess I'm not supposed to mention the food poisoning either...

I think there is a glitch with the online system. I made a breakfast ADR for December and it told me online that there are no characters at breakfast, which I know is not true (since I've been to CM for breakfast about half a dozen times and there have always been characters, lol).

I thought at busy times (free dining, etc) they added the lunch option and it did include the characters. I don't know this for definite but I'm sure there is someone on here that will know.
