Is Chef Mickey for dinner that bad

The food was terrible and the character interaction was the worst we've experienced ever, for Minnie Mouse go to topolino's instead, great food and character interactions.
I read the food was much better at Tololinos. I prefer that but we are staying at the Polynesian so trying to keep it somewhere on monorail route. Especially since we won’t be renting a car or bringing car seats.

We had dinner there once and it was fine - nothing special, but nothing terrible either. We've done breakfast several times and breakfast is better.

I would prefer breakfast there but was unable to get reservations. I think as long as it’s edible and not terrible we will keep reservations just for characters. The saving grace is my toddler won’t be 3 yet so just be paying for my husband and myself. She gets too excited to eat at Chick Fila, so there is no way I would pay $30+ for her if she was 3 or older.

We ate there in January for dinner and it wasn’t too bad. You’re paying for the characters so the food isn’t amazing but it wasn’t awful either. Our son loved seeing the characters and watching the monorail so I would eat there again
I can deal with that. Thank you!

We ate there a month ago and the food was great. Fresh salads, lots of veggies with the meal, etc. The character interaction was amazing and it's just such a fun, happy atmosphere. My kids loved it.

Staying on the monorail, with a 3 year old child that loves Minnie - I'd definitely go for it.
Yeah!!!! Thank you! I think we are just going to go for it for ease of being on monorail and for her to see her beloved Minnie. I also have a 9 month old who may enjoy watching the characters.

I'll start by saying I personally am not a big fan of buffets and their quantity over quality approach. I just don't believe you can make mass amounts of food and place it on steam tables for droves of people and call it great. But with that said, there are a couple of buffets in WDW that do a pretty good job of offering an average to slightly above average job; those being Boma and Tusker House (at least pre-covid). I tried Chef Mickey once and found the food and the service terrible. Chalked it up to a bad day. Tried it again the next year and found it to be almost as awful. I would call it nothing more than a Golden Coral with Disney characters running around. I'm sure a 3-year-old would love Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Goofy, along with a plate of chicken nuggets and sweets would be easily entertained. And for that reason only it may be worth it. Looking for an enjoyable dining experience for the adults, forget about it. Maybe Tusker House would be the better option where the adults and kids may actually enjoy the food and atmosphere along with the characters as well.
Thank you for your thoughtful reply. My husband and I are foodies (we have eaten at Victoria’s and Alberts pre kids) but this is our first big vacation with almost 3 year old and 9 month baby. Ease of getting to the restaurant is a big deal to us. And my daughter always gets too excited to actually eat when we take her out so I like the idea of family style where she eats free.

I think we will do it keeping in mind it’s just for her to see the characters.

We did lunch at Hollywood and Vine for Christmas and Dinner at Chef Mickeys in April. Family style both places. Food was not amazing but not inedible. Definitely not fine dining but it was fine enough for the purposes of a character meal. However, we found character interaction at Hollywood and Vine to be much better and much less of a rush than Chef Mickeys. If you’re there for the kids, every time we have been at Chef Mickey’s it’s been have the kid ready in advance, quick pose for a photo or two, then they move on. At H&V we got multiple table visits and the character stayed to interact (my niece had a dress on and she and Minnie had a twirl off). If you are going to HS during your trip, I’d recommend that over Chef Mickey because I have felt like the smaller restaurant means better interactions. Another option is Cape May if they are doing characters then - Minnie was there pre-Covid.
If we were going to HS, would def try to get Hollywood and Vine because I’ve read good things. Not going to HS much to my husband’s disappointment because it’s not on monorail and it looks like we won’t be able to do most rides with a 7 month old and almost 3 year old. But will keep that in mind for when kids get older and travel time won’t be so tiring for them. Thanks for the advice!

Not sure if you mentioned when you are going? Def keep checking if you think your family would prefer breakfast… our 60 day window opened this past Friday and there was nothing for Chef Mickey’s…. A few days later tons of times over different days opened up.

We enjoyed breakfast but not dinner. The food was bad. One thing that was not great but also not a big deal was that the characters skipped our table several times (it was very busy). Once I asked the handler to come over they did, so that part was fine.

We went there about a month ago in August. The dinner is not currently buffet, it is family style. The price was $55 each for our 5 guests so with tip added a $300 meal. The food was simply horrendous, the server was clueless, we made them bring us kids food like nuggets and mac n cheese, the only saving grace was the character interaction was fantastic, they came to our table every time and we were also stuck in a corner near the door to the kitchen. We won't go back again until it reverts to a buffet and we'll give it another shot. But if it is horrible again that will be the last time, especially at those prices. Pretty sad that was the place we went to for the last full day of Disney for dinner for over 15 years, it was a tradition, we'll see next time.....

When we went it was pre-pandemic and buffet style. The food was bad at the buffet, as well.

The food has never been very good no matter what meal you pick.
It is a chance for your kids to see the fab 5 and get amazing photos.
As long as you go in with that idea, it is worth every penny.
If you think you are getting a great meal as well as the characters, you will be disappointed.
However, there are worse meals you could pick . . . . .

What is the actual menu currently, we have reservations next week and its the only character meal we could get so don't want to cancel! However traveling with super picky eaters!
