is changing hotels considered cancelling?

We had a bit of drama last night at home and we either have to cancel the trip (and be out the airfare and deposit) or downgrade from AKL to a value. I'm within 5 days, so I'm curious as to whether changes to the reservation are considered "cancelling" the origininal and if I'm going to be out $183 now to make changes.

Anyone had to make last minute changes and happen to be familiar with Disney's policy on this?

They'll let you upgrade (I switched the end of my trip from AS to CSR less than five days out), but I'm not sure about moving down. Just call and ask.

This isn't a perfect solution, but if you can't switch now, you might be able to stay one night at AKL and then transfer to value since your $ commitment is only for one night. It's always better to switch up instead of down, but sometimes you got to do what you got to do.

I've switched from All-Star Sports to All-Star Music (to add an extra night) within 2 days of a trip and didn't incur a penalty but don't know about downgrading.

CRO told me you can change your resort any time up until just before arrival!

Does not matter to which resort...I would call asap so you can get the days you need. It's such a busy time and resorts are sold out..although you might find a cancellation.

I'm sorry you've had a family crisis. Hope you are able to find what you need.

Take care.

Never changed anything so soon to the trip, but it appears you should be able to.
