It seems that they are making the CBR into a deluxe from a mod so I am hoping this will become an additional option for DVC. What are the odds that this is their plan? And when is the eta for completion?

Disney is building a new building replacing CBR's Barbados and half of Martinique that could be a DVC resort. But it could still be a deluxe resort. No detailed plans have been filed and Disney nor DVC have made any announcements. I expect it will be awhile before we know if it is DVC or not.

I would expect that a moderate DVC resort would have to be a different category and the points wouldn't have the same value as the deluxe resorts do. So it would take more points from the moderate DVC to book a deluxe DVC resort.

We just purchased DVC in May at the Polynesian. When the lady who was working the kiosk set us up to tour, she told us that CBR was going to become the first moderate offering for DVC.

I would guess yes, it will be DVC. I imagine it will be a while before they sell as CCV and the last of Poly are the priorities for DVC sales.

Multiple insiders have said that value, moderate and deluxe categories are going away altogether and it will just be "Epcot Area", "Magic Kingdom Area" etc. They have said this new DVC resort will be self contained with its own theme- not "part of" CBR. One described the theme as "regal".

Of course these are just anonymous posters, but they have good track records of posting accurate information in the past.

Now we know. It is the Disney Riviera resort. It will be self-contained - not part of CBR. It will be on the gondola system.

It makes no sense. How are they going to stop CBR hotel guests from walking over to use their so-called deluxe DVC amenities? Disney tram, monorail, ferry, and bus do not require any kind of ID or ticket. So the gondola will like use the same system... so how can they divide those guests into two classes of customers? So they can't.

I wonder how those Grand Floridian owners feel now that their premium purchase is used at par as moderate resort guests. It's like they paid for First Class fare but other Economy fare customers get to use the same amenity. Can they ask for a refund now?

Anyone near a resort can use the transport systems. Those are not, in any way, a "deluxe resort amenity." QS and TS restaurants are not barricaded for resort guests only; see also Cali Grill and 'Ohana, right?

The pools, fitness centers, children's club, etc. are amenities they block non-resort guests from using. This has been true everywhere.

Grand Floridian owners still have 11 month booking at VGF, which new purchasers will not. Riviera points are also likely to sell for $200 per point. Not at all moderate. VGF purchasers will have gotten their points for a lot less.

Yesterday's announcement said CBR will be on the gondola/skyway system so I don't they'll have tot try to keep them from it.

In other words, if I want to pay cash and enjoy Signature restaurant, upscale shopping like VGF or PVR, DVC style grocery store, easy direct gondola transportation... I should book CBR. In fact, I can even bring my dirty laundry over to use their DVC laundry machine for studio owners.

Do other moderate resort guests get the same treatment? Is there any Signature Dining restaurant at any moderate resort? So this will definitely cheapen their so called "deluxe" line of resorts.

Can they physically separate them to make access to the DVC resort from CBR more difficult, sure, we'll see if they do. But one could ask the same question of BWI, BC/YC, etc. I'm confident they will find a way to make it reasonable and workable but skeptical as to the level of demand within DVC. IMO DVC already has 2 or 3 moderate location resorts in SSR/OKW and ? AKV. I expect this will be at or above those but below some in terms of demand.

I think that with potentially "fireworks view" and gondola access (if it will have a good throughput), this resort will have good demand.

I'm sure that Disney is planning on CBR guests becoming Deluxe guests after visiting the resort and even more so becoming DVC owners. Easy marketing!

Regarding staying at CBR and using the amenities at the new DVC resort -

I think I heard that CBR will have a gondola stop, and the new DVC resort will have its own gondola stop. So it would not be necessary for CBR guests to go over to the new DVC resort in order to get on the gondola.

I wonder if they might put restrictions on the new restaurant the way there are restrictions on going into the lounge at the top of BLT.

As for upscale shopping, I don't think every DVC resort has that so we don't know that the new DVC resort will.

I think that only leaves buying groceries in the DVC resort gift shop.

You typically need to scan your MagicBand to get into the laundry room. If you are staying at a different resort, the door should not open.

I mean, it's like saying that no one should own/book BCV because they can get great rates at Swan/Dolphin and walk over.

These are going to be two distinct resorts. CBR will already be on the gondola. The rooms at Riviera, presumably, are going to be higher-end, and also be villas ranging from studios (roughly equivalent to capacity at most of CBR), 1BRs (again, capacity equivalent, but more spacious with kitchen) and then the units that sleep greater quantities of people (2BRs, probable GVs). I doubt they'll make the point rates in the range of VGF, but I think this will sell well unless they really screw up something about the rooms.

Gondola to DHS and Epcot is not particularly different than the proximity factors for VGF and Poly to MK and Epcot.

Pop and AOA will also be on gondola, and aren't going to magically become deluxe. The rooms simply aren't designed to be, the buildings aren't designed as such, the pool bars aren't deluxe, the food service isn't deluxe. If they do Riviera right, it will be a destination for the dining. CBR guests will just be closer in to access it, much as Fort Wilderness guests don't necessarily have to struggle to get to the Lodge or Contemporary (save the hike to transport, which is equivalent to getting from the Pirate Rooms at CBR).

I don't think that the location will necessarily be a bad thing for those that like what it has to offer. What I am wondering, is the gondola system and it being overcrowded if CBR, POP, and AOA, along with Rivera are all using it? I know the new DVC location will have it's own stop, but will it work like the monorail and that it will stop there, but it will be the same ones that were used to pick up people at the other locations? Those are larger resorts so I am curious of how this will be in terms of crowds.

But, as mentioned, I don't think that guest of CBR will be able to use things like the laundry, etc. because it will require a magic band, like the other resorts. Shopping and dining have always been open to everyone, regardless of where you stay, so I don't see that as detractor to the resort.
