i really don't want to blow 2 dinner credits since I am not sure my kids will like it. What are the chances of walking in? And would I need to wait in line for a long time to see if a seat is even a possibility? Thanks in advance!

What MIGHT happen is that if you show up to the theater very early (say about 1PM, or so) you MIGHT get free "come back at X-time" tickets. They did some of that last year.

Otherwise, you MIGHT be in for some long waits and/or the possibility of not getting into the show.

I think it's possible, but tricky considering your dates. I would aim for the Monday night you are there. Make sure it's not a popular narrator (less popular the better). Plan to get there around 3:30 with the intention of seeing the second show. After they let everyone in for the first show, access the line. My guess is that you will be close enough to the front to guarantee a seat for the second show. You don't need to be there before the die hards who will get into the first show. If you don't make it into the second show, then there is always the 3rd as a possibility.

I felt the dinner packages were too pricey for my light eating family.

You can also just stand along the walkway, behind the theatre, in front of the American Pavillion, and watch from there. Yes, you have to stand. And yes, it can get very crowded if it's a very popular narrator. But, it's better than nothing.
Even those with the dining pkg have to line up nowadays. We seldom get into the line earlier than 35-40 mins prior to the show, and end up joining the line way back by Japan!!
I have seen the standby line wind around and around if it's a popular narrator. There was one day I saw a woman, sitting in one of those seats that is a cane and you pop it open to make it a seat, at the head of the standby line....at 2:30, for that first show!!! She had a book and looked like she was there for the long haul. I have to eat anyway....so I tend to get at least one pkg each trip. It's probably a bit more than I normally spend for dinner but it's special.
If you choose to do standby, expect to be in line for awhile....especially if you wait until later in your trip, or if the narrator is popular!!

Hopefully, they will do this again this year. It's the only way I will do the Processional. We went on Dec. 22nd or 23rd last year. Bracelets were given out at 1 pm in front of the theatre. When we came back for the 5pm show, we by passed the lines and walked right in. Excellent!

You could always go to one of the cheaper lunches for the early show and pay out of pocket.
