Is California Grill Worth It?

California Grill is certainly one of WDW's best restaurants. We went last fall with our two toddler daughters and we all had a good time. Nice to go to an upscale restaurant that is a bit more kid friendly. On a previous visit, we went during the fireworks show over MK and that was really nice. To be honest, I do not remember that much about the food. I just remember how nice the staff was to my daughters and the beautiful views.

Overall, I do not find the quality of food at most of the restaurants to be that great at WDW. I am sure this is because of the massive amounts of people each place is serving. I find the atmosphere to be the biggest selling points as you compare restaurants. Although I do not know for a fact, but I would imagine that all the restaurants are getting their ingrediants from common suppliers. I have a hard time believing that the quality of ingrediants varies that dramatically from place to place. All the chicken strips at WDW taste the same!!

I travel a far bit for my job and eat at a wide variety of restaurants from chains to high end fine dining establishments. Although I enjoy dining at Disney, I would not say food quality is what makes WDW fun or famous. Like a previous post stated, your perspective on dining at WDW is great influenced by what you are accustom too. I have a friend who swears by Olive Garden and another that thinks it is worse than frozen food. Who's right? Both.

Agree with one of the other posters... if you're a real foodie, you can nitpick the CG to death. (But for a foodie, where *isn't* easy to nitpick?) However, I think it does the loud california fusion stuff it aims at quite well, in a great atmosphere. The servers seem to run about 80% good, there are some that have been there for years and they're usually the best. For me, it really is worth it.

I think trying to time it with the fireworks viewing is more trouble than it's worth, however.

We have been there three times and each time really enjoyed our meal. That said, I agree that it is overpriced but what in Disney isn't? Also, we have never had a really friendly server there. Always professional and efficient, but never downright friendly like at other places in the "World".
